New here! HOWDY!

Hi Y'all!

I'm flabbergasted.

Yesterday, I was thinking about my old-battered unicycle stashed safely away in
a garage halfway across the country, and thinking I should buy a new one--after
all, I've had that one since I was 11 years old. So, I hopped online, did a
search for "unicycle" and entered a world I had no idea existed! I learned to
ride as a child in a small town in the Midwest where I was the only cyclist in
the tri-county area, so for me, it has always been a solitary passion. Just
where have you people BEEN all my life?

So, I have many, many questions...

This mountain cycling things sounds great! What a wacky idea, yet it sounds
fabulous! Sign me up! Where does one purchase a MUNI? Does anyone have a
used one for sale? Are there any organizations for this sport in the Los
Angeles area?

Welcome to the crowd! I know the feeling- I MUnie'd actively from 1985 to 1997
without knowing anyone else did this. Then I typed "Unicycling" into an internet
search engine, just like you!

Where was that? I'm from Livonia, MI. We had some unicycle clubs in the Detroit
area, of course, but it was always hard getting the word out. The Internet has
made it so much easier for people to find us and for us to communicate with
each other.

We were there, but you had to look really hard. We've been here on the Internet
for over 5 years now too, so glad you have started looking...

I think you got your main questions answered, so I won't repeat that.
Unicycle.com has most of the brands that are out there, so it's mostly a matter
of your budget.

When it comes to used unicycles, you can put an ad in the paper or something, or
check eBay. But I wanted you to know there are two "hot" MUnis out there
somewhere, and they are mine. They were stolen from my car a week ago, and
they're very easy to identify. As you will be searching, I wanted you to know
this in case you find any high-end used MUnis for sale out there. There is a
reward for information leading to their return.

1. A Roger Davies carbon fiber MUni. It has a black frame, green Miyata seat,
suspension seat post, a red tire, and silver aluminum pedals. It's the only
frame of its kind, with steel pins in the fork legs.

2. A chrome DM ATU (from Unicycle.com). It has a Unicycle.com sticker on it, a
red Miyata seat (very rare in itself), and a very fat, 2.6" Gazzaloddi tire.
Red pedals.

Please let me know if you hear of anything like that for sale. Used MUnis are
very rare, as there aren't that many in the first place, and even less people
who want to get rid of the ones they have. Go ahead and buy them if you're
afraid you won't be able to contact the seller at a later time, and I will not
only reimburse you, I will arrange a discount for you on your own MUni (from
Unicycle.com).

If you like, I can add you to my MUni mailing list. I use this list to notify
people of upcoming MUni events, though this is mostly in the Northern CA area.
The MUni Weekend also gets info broadcasts to the main unicycling newsgroup. But
we try to get together once a month up here for a ride somewhere in the Sierra,

boot. Jake gave you good references for supplies and information. John
Drummond (unicyclesource.com or 1-800 unicycle) can be a big help with

You realize with all this support, this is going to turn into a possibly
unhealthy obsession for me, don't you? Oh well, I really don't need to save
money for retirement, do I? After all, it's still a few years off. ;-)

Would you have it any other way? This is unicycling were talking about. Its not
a hobby...its life!

Yeah, well, I said the same thing a couple years ago when I got my private
pilot's license, and I'm still paying the bills. :P

At least unicycling seems somewhat cheaper! YAY! I've just got to find the right
cycle now. Wish me luck!

Wow, I'd love to do that someday. The money is always what put me off before,
but I can probably afford it someday if I can find the time amongst all this
unicycling...

Modify my previous advice about what unicycles to buy. If you're going off road,
get something that's up to the task because you're likely to break a "street"
unicycle relatively quickly. If a Pashley is in your price range, start there.
It has the right wheel size, and is intended for the offroad purpose.

Not a big injury, just a small patches of skin missing from my elbow, shoulder,
hip and knee (most of this only took a few weeks to repair) then on little bone
in my hand had a bad time! 8 days to go! then my arm is free from it's shell!
