Hi,

I've been riding my 20 inch for about a year now, and although it's great for
learning new skills etc. it's not really suited to doing any distance or
anything off-road, so I'm thinking of buying another with larger wheel.

Does anyone have any advice about whether 24 or 26 inch is more suitable for
general purpose use (i.e. a few tricks, some distance, some light off-road)?

Any advice would be welcome

Regards

Mick

With 24" you get more choice of unicycles. With 26" you get more choice of
tires. With the combination of things you listed above, I would suggest a 24"
Miyata. That is my cycle of choice for all-around.

If your main form of riding is to cover distance, then go for the 26".

I'm still pretty new at this (4-5 months), so take what I say accordingly.

I do recreational riding, moderate distances (a couple of miles maybe) often
riding with my children on their bicycles. My unicycle is a 24" and sometimes I
feel like I'm pedaling myself to death trying to keep up. It's good exercise,
but occasionally frustrating. If I ride by myself, it's not such a big deal.
I've been wanting to upgrade to a nicer unicycle and I'm seriously considering
getting one with a larger wheel.

While I'd like something like a Coker, in accessing my needs, I realized that
one of the things I enjoy about the unicycle is that I can keep it handy in the
trunk of my car all the time. So if I get a Coker, I'd also like to have
something smaller that I can keep in my car (or get a bigger car <g>). I've been
thinking a lot about the Semcycle 26", or maybe the Sem XL 26 or 28". BUT I
don't do a lot of tricks, I just like to ride. The 24's ok, but I'm just not
quite fast enough on it (maybe with some shorter cranks, and some more
practice... <g>)

As you have a 20 already for tricks and hockey, why not go for a 26 for muni and
distance, that way you have both and can lend one of them to friends who want a
go. two unis don't take up any more space than one in the shed or behind a door,
just top and tail them. Tranfering tricks up to the 26 is not to hard, and you
get a good choice of tyre on 26s as well.

I had a 24 first and started muniing on it, getting the 26 was great, more speed
and more clearance on those ruts, more space for a mud covered tyre too. sarah

Here are the somewhat common unicycle wheel sizes (in inches of course):

8-12-16-20-24-26-27-28-34-36-40-42-46-48-51-56

Every serious unicyclist should try to collect them all.

Should 18 and 22 be included as well? Any obvious omissions?

Sincerely,

Ken Fuchs <kfuchs@winternet.com

30 inch, a damm fine size sold by siegmono, no i don't have one yet but Trevs is
a very nice ride. One seriously rare one however is the DM 6 foot wheel, he
brought it with him to the BMW, there may be a photo on the BMW page or linked
from there on simon or lars pages.
