Amazing ride, and amazing story Kevin. Your Sunday ride ranks up there with any epic one-day story of challenge faced and overcome. All those flats? I can't imagine. In 10K miles, I still haven't had a single one, knock on my wooden head.

I love how as time goes by I continue to accumulate successful STP riders that I can be mistaken for on my own puny local rides. Hey, are you that guy that I saw on STP this year? Why yes, yes I am...

Well done, Sir.

Do you think a 75-100 mile pre-ride is enough, or should I do a greater percentage of the 204 as training? My first and only century was back in 2010. The STP will be a whole new experience since I want to complete it in 24 hours or less, which means no sleep for all that time!

A fit and superior rider should have now problems completing the distance if they are able to prevail and conditions are favorable. Terry you know your body and what it can do and needs. Test it, analyze the results and prepare accordingly.

TomBlackwood: Thanks, I feel guilty not coming to the MS-150 s and riding support or encouraging that whole cause, but your fund raising is superlative, really not less than superlative. Congratulation back at you.

uniShark: Hopefully you will be up to speed soon and riding tall in the saddle.

YooNeeNoob: Thanks. Come ride with the SARS

Terry: Keep me posted and I will try to be helpful to this undertaking

I'd say to do a 150. I don't have experience with anything over 100, but however your knees felt after your century, it will be a hell of a lot worse after a double century. A 150 pre-ride might ease the stiffness a bit, make it more bearable.

I'm sure you could just push through it and do a double century anyway, but a longer and more realistic pre-ride might make ride day more comfortable.

Thanks for that advice. I'm currently trying to map out a 200 miler down in my area, and the "Amtrack century" looks really good and can be done as an out & back which would cover about 203 miles. it's also a very scenic ride along the coast. If so, that would save me 2,500 miles in travel and wouldn't have to worry about getting caught in the rain!
