RSS-feeds??

Does the forum support RSS-feeds? I would like to be able to set a notification if a new thread is started in a specific forum, and RSS could be a good way to implement it.

It might just be a matter of switching this on, see: http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/faq...b3_board_usage
But maybe it wouldn't work, since the forum I want this for is a private forum, and an RSS-reader cannot log in as a specific user (or could it?).

If RSS cannot be used for this issue, then is there any other way I can set this new-thread-alert for myself?

I use RSS for new posts - I think you use this URL:

http://unicyclist.com/forums/external.php?type=RSS2

Thanks but I don't think it will work as the forum is question is a private forum, so it doesn't show up in the "Filter by category" list.

An RSS feed can be set up for a specific forum: http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/ext...SS2&forumids=3

but you are right that it doesn't work for restricted forums like the one you want it for. i can set that one up to send you an email on new posts or new threads if you want.

Let me ask around in the user group who wants this. I'll get back to you through email.

There is also the option "Subscribe to this forum" under Forum tools, that anyone can set for themselves.

Is that different from what you are "offering"?

What would be the result of either option? Notification for any new post in the forum, regardless whether it is in an existing or a new thread? Or only for new threads? I'm asking because one can subscribe to existing threads, but that would not cover new threads.

You can subscribe to a forum which will send you an email digest of new messages either daily or weekly of new posts to that forum, but not when new threads/posts occur. There is an option in the admin controls intended for moderators that allows me to have an email sent when a new post or thread is made to a forum.

So if I understand correctly, both do the same thing; the only difference is in timing? As in what users can set for themselves is restricted to daily or weekly emails compiling all new posts (whether in new or existing threads), while what an admin can set is an instantaneous email on anything new?
