Re-ordered again by volume, and tire type preference. I think everyone is still there. This is exciting!
We'll try this a third time. The iPod wouldn't let me quote easily and I got missed- twice...

Just a bump to let everyone know we're still working on this!
Currently modifying a tread design so we can get a fixed price and move forward with production.
No real details but once we have something concrete we'll post up again.

Thanks Matt

Good to hear there is some progress being made.

Can you just make sure for us that the tread is fairly rounded, as in not have a raised centre ridge and sticky out side lugs and not much inbetween, a la Maxxis Ardent 26x2.6

Sorry, you are saying NOT like the Ardent right?

We are gravitating towards something between that and a SB8, almost a RR with more "exagerated" knobbies, but fewer in the center (think 4 instead of the group of 6 on the RR). Or maybe a Nevegal with less agressive tread would be a better comparison.

I tried a smoother rounded version and while it was great as a back tire on my bike, I couldn't get any confidence on the front as it would wash out in loose terrain.

I'll shoot you a PM.

More agressive RR or Nevegal style tire would be cool, I just don't like the high-centered feeling of a tire without transition knobs. My fellow tirephile Nurse Ben doesn't seem to have a problem with that tire style.

For others not so familiar with the tires here is what I am talking about:

Ardent: all center and edge, almost non-existant transition knobs

Nevegal: has transition knobs

We will probably accept almost anything that gets made if it really ends up being 900-1000g with decent grip. I am just being fussy to help get the best tire made.

Looking forward to see what you guys are cooking up.

Gotcha. I think you'll like where we're going then. The knobs won't be so tall with a transition better than the Ardent but not so aggressive as the Nevegal.

Why?

What is the downside for you?

To be precise, you probably cannot test a unicycle tire properly on a bicycle.

Great work!

Sounds like a great plan. I am very excited about this and really am looking forward to doing more XC with my 36-er and a nice light tire

I actually(and Brycer1968) have a 36-er project planned and will welcome the lighter tire.... Stay tuned

We had updated over at MTBR but forgot to post here as well. Mould has been scheduled for completion in the next week or so, afterwards we will have our first prototype tires for testing! No clue on timing after that as it could take many prototypes or just the one. We'll post some pics of the first prototype when we get our hands on it and do some test riding to hear what the group thinks about the tread and weight.

I'm glad the Uni crowd is as excited as we are.

Yes, this is a big deal, not only the weight loss, but the possibility of a decent trail tire, it might be enough to push me back into the 36er camp. I sold my 36er because it was not trail worthy, but a good tire could change that!

I'm very curious to see how they balance volume and casing design without going over weight.

What tire dod you have on it? I've ridden my 36 many times offroad with the nightrider tire, and it performed great! When I put her in MUni-mode I remove the t-handle and aerobars of course, install longer cranks, usually 150's, and lower the psi to maybe half of the max. And the last time I rode MUni with it, it was at Hummingbird trail, which is mostly rocky and steep!

I even remember riding my "Radial" 36er off road years ago, and that one had the TA tire, which is like the current coker XLR. That one worked very well for MUni as well, which surprised me considering the traditional road tread design.
