If we recommend a certain brand of unicycle, we could get that brand's company to pay for the commercial. All we have to do is film and edit one after that. Then, put it on a channel lots of people watch, say discovery channel for a random example. I just saw a mountain bike commercial where the lead biker made a swiping motion and changed the scenery. There are lots of commercials with bikes in them, so I didn't pay that much attention to what it was about. But just imagine how many people would pay attention to mountain UNICYCLISTS! It doesn't even have to be muni. Street, trials, anything would work. Then have the unicycle company have a special price for people who had seen the commercial, and we could effectively advertise international unicycle day. What do you think?
I like this idea and I just thought I'd add my thoughts...

Surely all of the major brands are advertising already, in print, specialist magazines, whatever. It would be pretty trivial (although probably a bit late notice now) for them to add a little note about Unicycle Day to their existing advertising. If it means more sales for them then why not!

I'd be happy to work up a radio ad. Not sure how and where it can be used.

So, what company should we get to advertise?

We've been through this tired debate before. The date already exists; it is August 28. Rally the paperwork and media campaigns around that.

THURSDAY:
Variably cloudy, hot, and very humid with a chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Low: 78
High: 94; Heat Index: 98 to 108

This is the weather forecast for Madison on the 20th

I'll ride no matter what though. I don't care about temperature as much as most people. Can you believe people start conversations by complaining how hot or cold it is? It's a rather petty thing.

You'd understand if you lived somewhere really hot The other day I got in the car with my mom, the thermometer read 109 F. I assumed it was just a glitch or something and it'd go down, but it didn't. I'll definitely be riding the 20th though!

It's also a very British thing! It's not like we have anything else to talk about...

Well, apart from that whole Rupert Murdoch situation. But that's an exception!

What's everyone doing for unicycle day this year? I think I'm going to have to get my 29er out for a nice ride in public.

I suppose it is... Unless people would like to change it. I was planning on the 20th.

So, is it July 20th or August 28th?

If it's July 20th, tomorrow, then I'm planning on riding Tsali on my 36er:

http://www.main.nc.us/graham/hiking/tsali.html

I'm thinking about the longer loop, Right Horse Loop, it just depends on conditions when I get there; heavy rains can make it a quagmire.

Last time rode a unicycle at Tsali was three years ago, I was on a 26er and I rode the two shorter loops, it was hard and they were my longest rides to date at that time.

Now I'm going on a 36er and it'll be fast and furious
