Question Testing muni on 4WD tracks (CBR, Aus)

Hi unicyclists,

i'm after a show of hands from mountain unicyclists interested in riding some of the 4WD tracks in the Brindabellas, just outside Canberra (Australia).

i have been out there with a local 4WD club and rode one or two of the downhill tracks and it seemed to work quite well (and it amused the drivers ), so i am proposing to try an 'adopt a rider' trip.

The idea is that i ask the 4WD club members if they would be willing to adopt a rider for one of their trips, so unicyclists would go as passengers. The drivers get some entertainment that they wouldn't ordinarily get, and riders get transportation out there, to experience some 4WDing, and to ride some of the interesting tracks. Some of the tracks are steep (like low-range low gear to drive down, which means they drive down at a similar speed to the speed i was riding down them) -- i was slipping a little riding down on an old 24" Leopard Duro), can contain large ruts, and there are some with rocky bits on also. Good fun to drive, and should be good fun to ride (or attempt to ride).

i'm thinking i'll try and get a few different tracks of differing difficulty in to the drive (one particular track i'm thinking of may rival what i believe is the 'Rock Garden' bit out at Stromlo), so we can cater for the different muni skill levels of riders. Also, the vehicles will stay with us, so riders can pick and choose which bits they want to ride.

We may need to offer some payment toward fuel, or provide some food for them, or some other means of compensating them -- we can negotiate something if we get enough people to go ahead.

i have received interest from the 4WD club, so if we can get a few riders expressing interest, then i'll head back out there, locate some interesting tracks we can try, and start planning it.
i'm thinking just a half day or evening drive/ride to start with, so we can see how it goes, hence this test run will probably only suit local Canberra riders. Depending on how it goes, i may see if we can do longer ones (full day with BBQ lunch type thing) in the future.

l8r,
karl...

yup,
I'm all for finding new trails and i love the brindies so this plan sounds like a good one. I'm going to Tassie in mid Jan so i'm not sure about the timing of it all but if it works out it would be great.
keep in touch,
mark
