T-bar

Kris,

The post mentions a 70mm length extension to the t-bar touring handle.

Will the added length allow for a fully retractable handle as compared to the 2010 model if desired? Will the fully retracted position look like the 2010 position in the image?

The image shows the t-bar is very close to seat post for the 2010 model so I suspect that if this position is desired for the 2011 model, the touring handle will need to be cut by 70mm. Or could the handle be pivoted upward to accomidate the extra 70mm length to avoid cutting the handle?

Thanks

How far you can retract the handle depends a bit on the handle angle as you say - angling it upwards does let you push it further back.

However, on both the original and updated versions you do need to cut the tube if you want it in the shortest possible position. The furthest back position happens when the slotted tube is towards the back (seatpost clamp towards the seatpost), same as the photo you attached. In this position there's enough room for the brake lever while positioning the "T" part right underneath the front handle. If you're extending it as far forward as possible, flip the slotted tube towards the front. This better supports the front tube, improving the stiffness.

Note: 50 mm of the new longer length is in the "T" tube. 20 mm is in the slotted tube. I extended it in this way because the longer slotted tube better supports the T when it's in the extended position.

T-bar bar ends

Kris,

Your website notes that T-bar touring handle bar-ends are replaceable if damaged. Where do you buy the bar-end replacements? Or at least I have not seen the bar-ends sold seperatly online.

Thanks,

That's true. The "T" of the T bar is 22.2 mm tubing, which is a common size. It's also common to find 25.4 mm tubing with an internal diameter of 22.2 mm, to slip over this size.

Re replacement of bar ends: the caveat is that the importer actually has to order replacement bar-ends for the exact same ones to be available. That may not be the case. If the originals aren't available, other bar ends should be available from many bikeshops.

Great updates kris. Thanks for all of the time and effort you put into the community. Really too bad about the handle, I'm always worried about my finger ending up snapped in two, but I am really happy those are coming. As well as I'm excited to get the new seatpost.
I would like to see those lighter cranks as well. Other than that, keep doing what you are doing. It is truly appreciated.
