Saddle weights KH '08 vs KH '09 vs CF base
I'm sure this information must be out there somewhere, but I can't seem to find it by searching...
Does anybody know if there is a difference in weight between the '08 KH Freeride (dome nuts) and '09 (flat allen bolts), and the weight saving of a CF base over a normal KH base? I'm building up a new xc 29er and wondering whether it's worth using a CF base for weight saving. I'm not really bothered about stiffness - I don't find the normal KH base too bendy for my riding - but if there was a big weight saving I'd consider a cf base. Needs to be a decent weight vs cost ratio though - I've ruled out a Ti hub as too expensive (although it would save 200g over a normal hub, but costs more than £100 more). Rob

Rob, my KH '09 weighs 956 grams and when I asked Roger at Unicycle.co.uk about the CF base weight he said he thought it saved around 200 grams.

The newer KH saddles are quite stiff too as it is, and for the slight weight saving of a CF base, it isn't worth the effort it takes to drill all the holes and spend the extra money on the base. CF bases are great if you want to make a custom saddle and if you notice a stiffness problem with the KH saddle you are currently using.

Thanks for the replies folks. 200g is a fairly decent saving, but I think I'll just use a normal saddle for now and possibly upgrade later - I haven't got any decent spare foam at the moment, so I'd have to buy a new saddle to gut, which seems a bit of a waste.
Still, cf base AND ti hub would take almost a lb off, which would be quite nice (but rather costly). Think I'll just stick with saving weight on the tyre, cranks and pedals, where it matters more. Rob

I would reccomend looking around on here to get some cheap parts up if you don't "need" them now.
