Hey monocyclism Loved the video.
You could have stretched that out into a half hour television programme. Hehe, like the way your friend calls your uni a b*ke!

Great job Geoff. Wow, 100 at 63?
I remember the cool video you made of yourself learning the Coker that first year. I just turned 59 and hope to ride my age in miles in one day real soon. 40 is my longest so far.

Look mum, no training wheel!

I managed my forth (or was it third) ride-my-age for this year yesterday. 62km. (I'm 60.) Which has taken me sooooooo slose to my next big number - 20,oookm on the 24". I expect tomorrow to hit that number.
And I am soooo amazed that, despite yesterdays long ride, tonight I did a full ride home (18km) thru wind and driving rain. Perhaps I am getting younger? I wish.... |

I managed my fourth (or was it third) 60+ km for my age last Sunday.
Monocyclism - 100m is more than impressive. Wile you have 50% more travel on your wheel, that is around 250% better than my max daily efforts. Even if you are geared up further... How long btw? |

Within your own skill limitations (you know them better than anyone else) be prepared to ride slower than you may find natural. To keep it slow you can ride circuits around your group (think about your favoured direction then) or simply slow down, do idles, reverse sometimes or just hop off sometimes and interact with the crowd.
Your crowds will almost certainly respond really well to you handing out hi fives too, especially kids sitting on the ground if you are happy to lean down as you ride. Hi fives is a certain winner that you can do for the whole time. I assume that you have already addressed what you wear, but just in case, and for what it is worth - I ride my black tight stuff which which is part of my commuting wardrobe anyway but I then add a black leather hat I have. Sorta then looks like performancy/circus in an athletic sort of way. Alternative strip when I am on giraffe is long LONG tuxedo, sleeveless, made for the occasion with a top hat - all made to enhance the tallness of a giraffe. Amd remember though that on a uicycle with ANYTHING you already are good for a parade so you don't need to sweat it at short notice. Last edited by colinoldncranky; 2012-08-12 at 03:13 AM. |

The original poster in this thread invited riders of 55 years and older to ride their age, be it in km, miles or furlongs. This weekend I rode my age in all three of them -in fact I almost doubled that.
I participated in an organised 24-hour charity fundraiser event, www.raps24kika.nl. Besides contributing towards the good cause of raising money for child cancer research, my other goal was to break the Dutch 24-hour unicycle distance record, which stood at 103.7 km since 2005. And I managed that. In fact, the old record was broken after about 5.5 hours, in spite of rather strong wind. Of course I continued, and by the time the 24 hours had passed, I had covered 253 laps. On a preliminary basis, this converts to a distance of 311.949 km (193.8 miles). Preliminary, because not all data are fully processed yet, but the final result won't be far off. Some more details are given in http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94780. Once I'll have pictures and more definitive data, I'll post there again. |

Way to go Klaas! Brilliant that achievements like yours can be part of the 55+ group!
