Is there a point where everyone is asleep at the same time?
I've wondered this for a while, is there a point where everyone around the world is asleep at the same time? Where it's just early enough in the morning that that half of the world is still asleep and it's getting late enough on the other half of the world that everyone just went to sleep. So what do you guys think, is there a point where everyone could be asleep at the same time?

If there wernt any oddballs im sure there could be a certain second where a large portion of the population is asleep.
But, there are oddballs like me who will stay up till 8am before going to bed. So...

Even if you weren't counting people like Jerrick who stay up all night, the sun is always in the middle of the sky somewhere on this Earth.
Your answer: no. |

On a side note. What I have always wanted to do, is race the sun. In a plane most likely, but just be slightly ahead of it so for as long as I am going, it will be sunny out.

Well I prefer night over day, so I would do that but I would stay on the opposite side of the world from the sun. Then it would be dark all the time.

Being awake is a subjective term....
...somehow I made it on the bus this morning and arrived at work. But I have no conscious evidence of this or ever not being asleep/awake. Existential narcolepsy. |

I've always wondered a similar thing...is there ever a moment where all people on earth of sexual maturity are masturbating?

I'm not sure you can outrun the Sun for a day. The circumference of the Earth is 24,901.55 Miles. Divide that by 24 hours: (24 901.55 / 24 = 1 037.56458) and you get that the Sun moves at ~1,037.5 mph. This is about Mach 1.4 - but you'd have to travel faster than that if you are planning refueling stops. This is around the equator, though. If you move out towards the poles you might have better luck. The speed drops to about half that around the 45th parallel according to the internet. Supposedly if you do Cos(your latitude)*1037 you'll get the speed of the earth's rotation at your particular location, but I was getting pretty weird results testing that out. |

P.S. - Sleeping and <what you said> are not a "similar thing". (Edit: I'm not going to say the "m" word in a family forum.) Last edited by uni57; 2008-11-10 at 04:08 PM. |

Dave, you seem to be an expert on these matters. Do you happen to know what happens when someone who is severely constipated hears the brown note? (And for the record, I am not asking for personal reasons.)

The answer to your question is: No. Now whether there is any time that unicyclists under the age of 20 are not <what you said> is also: No.
