SF Bay Area Big Wheel Rides Sept 13-14
We have two interesting rides planned for the Bay Area in California this weekend, both catering to 36" cycles.
Saturday afternoon we're meeting in Santa Cruz for the famous Rob's Ride, a 19.5 mile ride with about 1200' of climbing and quite a bit of offroad. The newest route includes an extra mile of singletrack Muni. It's a great ride. Crank length: has been done 100% on 110mm by Beau but that is not recommended. 125mm at minimum, some people prefer longer. Saturday evening Rob is giving a slideshow on the Vietnam Uni Tour in Santa Cruz, with dinner. Sunday morning at 8am, we're doing the 6th Annual Unicycle Tour of San Francisco, Gary's excellent tour of most of the tourist spots in and around San Francisco. This is about 41 miles with about 3000' of climbing. Cranks: recommend 125mm or longer and a brake. Lombard St is exciting with short cranks and no brake. Please post here or PM me if you intend to come for any of these events. Everyone welcome, but you must be able to complete the ride. No sag - you're on your own to make your way back by public transportation in the event of bailage. Here's Gary's announcement for this year's ride: It's that time again. Time for a bunch of 36" wheel unicycle riders (maybe even a geared 29") to invade "The City". It's the same as it has been for the past 5 years, a 40+ mile Tour around San Francisco, where we take in a lot of great sights, blow minds, enjoy good company, and have fun. The route is basically the same as last year, although I'm making a few modifications in some areas for improvement. I'll be handing out laminated maps again with turn by turn directions. The ride is scheduled for : SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 14TH 8:00 AM CALTRAIN DEPOT PARKING LOT (5TH STREET / TOWNSEND ST.) SAN FRANCISCO, CA We will be having a lunch stop about half way (bring $$) and then after the ride we will be gathering at : CIOPPINO'S On The Wharf Italian Seafood Restaurant and Bar 400 Jefferson Street San Francisco, California (415) 775-9311 http://www.cioppinosonthewharf.com/home.html Here are the links to last year's photos from Nathan and Myself: http://nhoover.smugmug.com/gallery/3458516 http://gkanuch.smugmug.com/gallery/3453971 The Route 2003: 5 Unicyclists, 1 bicyclist 2004: 7 Unicyclists 2005: 12 Unicyclists 2006: 15 Unicyclists, 1 bicyclist 2007: 16 Unicyclists, 3 bicyclists |

Nathan, when we were in Vietnam I promised that we would come to this year's SanFran ride, but unfortunately I will be in Montreal on business. Have a wonderful ride, enjoy the Vietnam memories, and we will be thinking about you guys.

Ask me about the Ottawa unicyclists
|
Wow I would love to see Rob's pictures from Uninam! Are any of them online at all/will they be?
I'm doing the Terry Fox run/ride on Sunday on my coker with a few other unicyclists, so I will be there in spirit.
