Yes, I'm in the states for nearly a month now. I'm living half an hour south from San Francisco. Very close to the bay (15min with my trial). I'm really happy over here! Live in a nice family where I have to take care of a very cute 17 months old girl. If you wanna go for holidays to the westcoast let me know.

Sometimes I ink using waterproof ink and a brush and paint with watercolors, but paint's expensive and my scanner sucks so any final digital image is always grainy, unless I take it somewhere else to scan....

I'll be studying Practical Theology and International Relations with a degree towards English teaching, or so the plan goes.

Sounds great. I wish I could, but I have no money and school starts soon. I am glad you are having a good time. How well is your English working with those that you meet?

Sounds simple to color on the computer. How does GIMP compare to Photoshop?

Only if you're just doing boring ol' flat color. It took me all day to do this.

It's lacking a few features (a lot of which can be fixed with addons), but I like it better (especially because of all those addons). Anything that it doesn't do I can just do in SAI or another program.

The main problem I have with GIMP is the way the toolbars work. They can get very annoying until you're completely familiar with all their stupid quirks and tweak all the settings to your liking, and even then...

SAI has the best toolbar setup imo.

Thanks for the info. I downloaded GIMP a long time ago an just never really got to using it. It be a nice program to have if I took and edited more pictures. I might use it one day.

Well, Gimp isn't specifically made for drawing/painting--it's primarily an image editing program. I've been doing more and more of my work in other programs as I learn to use them better.

....I can't decide. There's a certain tactility that you can't get in digital, but digital art is so much more flexible and cleaner... Hm..

Sounds interessing.

It works really good! I've got nearly no problems in understanding and everybody I meet is surprised about my English skills when I tell them that I'm German.
In the end of my year (June 2012) I've got a whole month to travel. I plan to visit the east coast, so maybe I can visit you by then.
