How much does it cost to insure a car in the US at 16/17?
I am 17, passed my test 3/4 a year ago. The cost for insurance on a small 2 door hatchback (say a 1.2L ford fiesta) is on average £2000 (~$3500) a year for my age!

Dang. We went used car shopping for my brother in march, and there wasn't anything that would last 4 years under 10k. Used car prices are ridiculous these days.

It cost me about $400 dollars every 6 months at 20 on an 87 S-10 Chevy 2.6 Liter pickup. I think my insurance prices are high though. My Mom told me that they were fine, but I talked with some friends recently and my price is way to high. I'm a bit upset. I trusted my Mom knew what she was talking about.

I have friends that don't even pay insurence, it's cheaper for them to pay the ticket for not having insurence when they get pulled over. I'm not condoning this though as if the got in an accident they would be screwed.

Yup, that would be me. Except I pay my insurance. I am a good boy and follow most laws laid out by the governing authorities. And they would indeed be "screwed".

I am not sure. They would either have to deal with the law or pay for all the damages I would imagine. They would probably have to do both. Violation of the law can easily lead to retribution whether the law is just or not.
One would now ask why do "bad" people get away with their law breaking all the time? It would appear that they do through our current point of view.
