Custom Bicycle Building

Howdy, everybody.

I'm looking to build a custom bicycle for Christmas, and I figured this would be a good place to ask for assistance. Essentially what I want is a really basic bike. Normal everything, mag wheels, and hand brakes. I don't care about gears, or bikes capable of jumping off of things. I just need a bike that's going to take me around town, and around college next year.

Unfortunately, I can't find any site that'll let me select the parts I want and build a bike, nor can I find a suitable bike to modify. Am I out of luck, or is there a good resource I'm not finding?

Any and all help is appreciated.

yes, ebay. It's a bit of a pain because you have to know about components enough to be sure they'll fit together but a couple of friends of mine have built up really nice single speeds from ebay parts at pretty good prices.

How 'bout getting a junk bike or three and reworking it?

Use eBay to get the parts you're really keen on, and reuse / rebuild / repair the rest.

With a welding torch and a pile of junk bikes, you can make any wheeled vehicle your mind can imagine...
