I can put up a few people as well. We've got 3 extra beds so if folks want to come up the night before, just let me know.
It would be great to have some more racers in the uni category. If for no other reason than to prank call Steve the night before so that he's too tired to be a contender. |

Race Director: here!!! Calling all unicyclists
hey everyone..stumbled on the forum! you all have to come! I made this catagory for you! the race is fun, and not tooo technical. it will be a blast. If the entry fee has you down, remember, we give great prizes, lots of eats, and well it is really worth it. Just wanted to give this thread a bump. So far, it looks like steveyo and I are the only two in the unicycle category. At the risk of jeopardizing my lock on second place, I'd like to encourage any and all riders in the area to sign up for this event. Here's the link https://www.bikereg.com/events/regis...p?eventid=5394
I'm pretty slow... so if you're a beginner, don't let the competition scare you. It's all about the fun!!! Last edited by capuni; 2007-10-22 at 09:25 PM. |

How was the race?
I backed out, but I see that Steve and Peter placed first and second respectively in the unicyclist class. Nice rolling! Hope it was a great time. How were the trails after all the rain just a day before.

It was great. The trails were in pretty good shape. It was much longer, almost twice as long of a loop as the previous race at that site. The hills are fairly small, but they're frequent and steep. The trail twists and turns constantly and there are many sustained sections so rooty that there's more root than dirt.
Perry (not Peter) and I had a fun time, and after two hours, we were beat. All the bikers were full of respect and encouragement. Every exchange was "On your left!" "You're doing great, keep it up!" "Thanks, you too!" "Looking good!", etc. All, that is, except the winner of the expert class. He was an a$$ hat. Never a word before passing me, nor a response to my positive encouragement for him, and I heard him say "Let me by, please!" to a female biker in a very irritated tone. After he passed us both and rode off, she passed me, and I quipped, "He said 'please', but it still wasn't polite, was it?" She laughed with me and agreed. Here's some pics by Perry's wife laura. Anyway, there are races there Thanksgiving time (11/22), and another around xmas time. (12/23) Link: http://www.outsideadventures.net/id2.html

Also, here's the best uni pic ever taken of me, by Laura, Perry's wife. Note the cape - it was Halloween after all!

It was a fun race. Although, the course was brutal on my 29er. There were some spots with so many roots that I couldn't keep the big wheel rolling.
I'm not going to be around for the Thanksgiving or Xmas races, but if I was around, I would definitely race again. Loads of credit goes to Heather for coordinating these events. Here's a pic of me in the same spot as Steve. Just a little further behind. ![]() And here's a link to some video that my wife shot. All Hallows Uni Race |
