282 Miles in 24 hours

We're celebrating now so possibly will not post myself again.

A massive "WELL DONE" Sam

I'll see if we can get Sam to post something.

Congratualtions Sam. Knew you could do it. You might have that record for a while - you might even be stuck with it. Fantastic.

Tue (sporting a smile that starts way down in my tommy - feels nice...)

Wow, congratulations Sam!

I was impressed enough by the speed at which you shot off into the distance at the Warwick race the other week, to keep that up for 24 hours is hardly believable!

After your end-to-end ride and your ride from Aber all the way to BUC I knew you could do it right from the start Sam. Big congratulations to you. I now feel so privileged to have met someone who now holds a world record, not many can brag about that.

Feeling slightly ashamed as I've just woken up from my Sunday lie-in, knowing you've been working all day and all of the night.

Hello everyone who has been reading this thread!

Steve has told you the distance, 282.0 miles, 453.8 km! I'm really pleased with that, as you can guess.

I feel quite awake still, and found that keeping going meant I think I only yawned twice. It was fantastic having so many people helping me out and offering support at the event. Roger and Steve must both have ridden 40+ miles just behind me, as well as other cyclists from time to time, to talk to me and keep it interesting. Ailments include a stiff lower back and numb left thumb (from holding aerobars for over 22 hours).

I look forward to seeing when someone goes to challenge this next time - as Ken said, a record is only worth having if it is challenged.

Time to wash and get some sleep now.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone

Sam

P.S. Now I also have to see if Guinness have a record for distance without dismounting, which I thought I did 105.5 miles. Then it was pasta time.

By the way Sam, in case no one took note of this, you have another record as well. When Takayuki Koike did his 100mile record, it also doubled up as the longest-distance-without-a-dismount-record. Looks like you're the one with this record now. Make note of this when you submit to Guinness, and point out that it was a record they kept in past editions.

456km is a pretty damn fine effort! Nothing short of amazing actually. Almost enough to make me think hard about another attempt (it's going to hurt!!!!!).

Congratulations!

Ken

Fantastic job Sam.

I feel that just saying 'congratulations' doesn't quite do it justice. But, on behalf of everyone who's been following this, a huge Well Done!

STM

(Now, get some sleep!)

In awe...

My children and I have been following your preparation and ride from Lisbon. PARABENS is portuguese for congratulations Sam, but is a pretty feeble word for such a mind boggling, superhuman feat.

Happy celebrating, and a smooth recovery!
