okay...i apologize for my previous post...

just seems like you were making a really big deal out of it earlier, but if you've found a way to work with the situation, that's awesome.

Thanks man no worries I just really want a 36-er, and I guess I'm just tired of waiting and not having one. Actually, a friend has been nice enough to let me borrow his extra, but I can keep imposing and not feel guilty about it. I just really want my own, even if it might not work out, at least UDC will take it back. Ive gotta simply face facts; I've got coker fever...and the only prescription, is more cowbell!!! Eh...wait that's not right...haha! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpwfJ9zJ7Qc

I thought of a possible scenario: perhaps - if there is a thin spot in a tube - it can fold over upon itself as the tube/tire combination flexes with each contact with the ground. I can imagine as the tire flexes and returns to normal shape with each revolution that a thin spot on a tube could peel or fold or otherwise shift around, causing a tear, sudden pressure loss, and (as Terry describes), wheel rotation and rider momentum can twist the tire off the rim.

haha, I know the feeling. That's why I had to get one too...(I opted for the steel rim version because I'd rather wait until airfoils and tires are standardized before upgrading.)

about 10 min into my first ride the tire unseated itself and jamed on the frame. I promptly got (fell) off the uni and let the air out of the tube before the tube could herniate and blow out. I put the tire back on, was very carefull to seat it evenly when I re-inflated it and have had no problems since.

I ride my 36er almost exclusively on ATV, Snowmobile and hiking trails but have taken it to a skate park where it held up to 2 foot drops better than I did.

I do not believe that I have a faulty tube but had the tire seated improperly when I first got my cycle. The tire/rim fit may be a bit loose but if seated properly it should not be too much of a problem.

I say check to make sure your tire is evenly seated and you sould be fine.

For me a bigger problem than an unevenly seated bead was the tube getting caught under the bead, since the tire fits so tight on the rim. When the tube would get stuck under the bead, it was difficult to
(1) Figure out where it was stuck before it started to bulge
(2) Squish the tire back under the bead to fix it.

Given this, I can believe that it was a tube problem during the "scandalous period" , and from now on, I'm going to talc my tubes before installation to make them slip under the bead more easily.

Has anyone suffered any more blow outs since receiving these new, non-faulty tubes?

I ask because last week I had another blow out, this time at about 38 psi and while off the uni having just pumped it up which leads me to doubt the faulty tube theory.

It really seems to me that the obvious answer is that rims are simply slightly too small. Getting the TA tyre on and off this airfoil is really very easy, certainly the easiest tyre to install/remove that I've ever come across.

Also, I'd like to hear from someone independent who has the means to accurately measure an older Coker tyre and a new one. It seems unlikely to me that Coker would suddenly decide to change the size of their tyres when there's been no problems with it.

I've spoken with Roger about this recent blow out and have been offered a replacement tube and TA tyre at half price but I'm not keen on the idea of spending more money if within twelve months I'm going to have to replace them again.

It could be that the tyre bead was damaged after the first blow out I had and allowed the tyre to slip off more easily this time. The bead is now quite noticeably misshapen around where the blow out happened this time.

It's all just rather frustrating having no definitive answers yet so many theories as to what's going on. I just want a unicycle I can inflate to the point I find comfortable to ride with without being afraid of it exploding. It's not much to ask after spending so much on a supposedly superior product is it?

take it apart and check for rim tape, also see this http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65133 (the Nimbus 36er SE and Airfoil rims are very similar) I the end I had to file down the burs on the inside of the rim and get rim tape, no problems since then (about 4 mounths)

So far so good here. I've used my 36er for long distance as well as 4' drops and other unconventional stuff on a big wheel, and no problems at all; and i routinely run 40 psi!
