Poetry Discussion Thread

With all the Music threads, it seems as though poetry isn't given it's proper recognition.

So without further ado, I present the unicyclist community with! None other than:

The Poetry Discussion Thread

So... Discuss. Post poems you've written. Poetry theory. Anything you see fit to go in the "Poetry Discussion Thread"

I don't write poetry personally, my writing is awful, but I love reading poetry! Lately I've been into Beat poetry specifically, like Kerouac and Ginsberg, but Gary Snyder is my favorite poet of all time. When I'm in the right mood, Sylvia Plath is one of my favorites.

I did search, and I found nothing relevant. If you could give me a link then we can use that thread and let this one die.

Otherwise:

I'm with you James. I'm not the best writer of poetry either. I've tried multiple times, but it's always not too good. Reading poetry is fun! So start postin'!

Running man-
Only running
never going

It's just a game
some call it life
I call it suicide

We all die

running

Now what you run from
that is your choice
for some love
others anger

me I choose life
just running
from the suffering

I sprint to the end
letting all its precious fruit pass
never experiencing
only observing
until I reach the end

I will forever be

running

The Speed of life-
It only goes
never stopping

running I try to keep up
I never do

no time to enjoy
just go

friends and family
just become distant
drifting away upon a lake
like leaves

in the autumn wind

no time for anyone

I wish,
but no

as the end nears
I realize
the world has past me by
leaving me
despite my running

I see it in entirety
friends and family
the love between two
the hardships of one

foolishly I let it all pass
wanting to keep up

with the speed of life

these are rough drafts basically, but it is what I am on now.

[EDIT] I AM EXPERIMENTING WITH STANZASA's DON'T FREAK OUT ON ME. srry for the caps.

Pretty good!

I might put some of mine on here... I don't know yet. I'm still experimenting. I need to find the right balance of words/rhymes so that it dosen't sound stupid, but isn't just writing, and not poetry.

One of my favorites is Langston Hughes.

Finally we arrive---1
not to the country side,---2
but a horrid tortuous place---3

in the confusion---4
we heard it---5

the barking orders---6
to separate from one another---7

I let go of her hand-8
the warmth slips away slowly---9

I march forward-10
not knowing what awaits---11

I see nothing, but darkness---12
and the walls that confine me---13

terrified I look around---14
faces of young me---15
fraught with worry---16

then I realize---17
we have arrived at hell.---18

I have a slightly better version. This is an old one I did for school a couple months ago like 1-2.

Thanks I really don't rhyme I find it to take away from the true value of my poems. He is alright....kind of.... a little bit..... maybe.... lol

[EDIT] ever hear of free verse?! Poetry certainly doesn't have to rhyme that is such an annoying thing.

As I lie here awake

As I lie here awake
I think of things
I think of the things that are wrong and right.
I can't help but think it seems like when I go left, you go right.
Are you trying to avoid me?
Are you trying to cause me this hurt?

Running Lean

My life is running lean
In everyday examples it can be seen
You've been so mean,
You've been so cruel
And I still love you
Somehow, through all this darkness
I still love you

These are just experiments... and mostly just rough versions. Tell me what you think.

First off for my taste the second rhymes a little to much, but hey we're all different. Secondly use a thesaurus BIG help. Not great, but a good start nonetheless work out the stanzas, cut some lines in half(or more) and boom good poem.... Good luck.

Yeh, as I said. I'm still experimenting. Thank you very much for the comment. It makes me feel great that somebody actaully took the time to analyze something I wrote. I'll remember your advice in the future. This definatley won't be my last attempt.

Thanks again.
