In with the new (deleting older footage)
Yo,
You might have noticed my post in "unicycling dream team" if not i'll repeat it more nicely, lol. Does anyone on here, after releasing their movie, delete the footage it contains? I can't stand to hang on old footage. If the footage is gone, it forces me to do better. We can't hang on to the aged stuff anymore. If this sport is going to progress quickly, there has to be riders out there that better themselves every single time, and don't just hang on just one trick. Just curious if anyone else is with me on this. Or is it one of those "just relax man, take a chill pill" type of replies? You remember -Serious riders- don't you? You all know how that turned out . -Shaun Johanneson

Big HDs are great, but remember to keep backups! A friend of mine is currently dealing with this problem. He takes pictures of his (roofing) work, and has been saving them all on the old hard drive from his original computer (1993 or so). He has the HD in an external box now, but apparently it never occurred to him that it might croak someday. Well, it has. Now he's looking into the expense of having his data retrieved by a specialist company; how much it's going to cost him.
I advise keeping a backup of the projects you like. If you don't expect to ever use the footage again you can probably delete all the original stuff. However if you ever want to go back and do a retrospective, or comparisons of before and after, you might want to keep some.

I'd archive it somewhere, if nothing else to come back in a couple years and think to yourself, "Remember when we thought that was cool?"
Oh, and when you get really rich and famous you can use it in the Early Days Documentary film... ![]() Keld |

I think what Shaun is getting at is when you make an edited video and show it to the world, then you can get rid of the individual footage you took to make the video. Basically, you should never use that footage again in a future edited video because it was already used. The footage you used is pretty much dead, so there's no use for it anymore.
You can still look at the footage by watching the edited video you made. Also, Terry's old footage is really cool due to its age, and it was also never really edited when it was made, so there's no reason to delete it.

I always delete the whole project after I am done with a movie because they take up so much space. I dont tape over the actal tapes that I have. I still have a lot of footage from a very long time ago, its cool to look at and see how much I have progressed and stuff.

I don't delete stuff after I've used it. But I go back and watch an old video, and can't stand to watch it. I don't think it's good anymore. Which makes me eager to do another.

i'm really bad i never delete stuff. Everything that i like i keep on a raid 1 in our server that is backed up with a scsi DAT tape.
i've had lost data, and everytime it was a bad experience. You always look back and think, damn i really wanted to see that. Now everytime i run out of space i buy a new HDD. ITs expensive but its so nice. I mena i guess it all depends how much video you do. I mean maybe you should sort stuff out and decide what you'd liek to keep or not. |

We can start by deleting all of evolution! That movie has been outdated before it even went up for sale.

yeah once you make a movie you should keep a copy of the finished product but delete all the small clips that went into it.
so then when a new movie is made there is no old content which results in the old tricks now being done more smoothly and better tricks being done. so moral of this is, once you have edited a film, keep a copy of it but delete all the clips for it and get out there and begin to film new content for a new film, no point keeping dated stuff as it is in the edited video.

f this sport is going to progress quickly, there has to be riders out there that better themselves every single time, and don't just hang on just one trick.
For this sport to actually progress quickly it needs exposure and new kids.. My example is the sport of BMX..freestyle of course...its gotta be super hard to be pro in that sport due to how quickly it has progressed and how crazy the tricks are now... In the last 2 or 3 years new guys have been making an uprising in the sport of Freestyle BMX...they started doing things that no one else was doing..Corey Bohan, Scotty Cramer, and many more..how did they gain this exposure that was seen by the world...2 words....competitions and magazines... We need more competitons...maybe do a tour....have a trials, freestyle, street competion in the major cities in most of the states...Competitions are what makes kids more competitive in their tricks for the want to win kind of thing... I see on here that people are either looking for competitions or starting competitions..that is good.... Tricks are had to invent on unicycles so i give an applause to anyone who invented a new trick.. As for the magazine..im not even going to say that it needs more exposure..i dont have a subscription to it on account of im too cheap to buy it and i dont have a job to make money otherwise i would buy it...so i dont have much room talk on that subject...
