Question Bad Palm Plant Injury!

Had a bad "palm plant" the other day and thought I'd broken my hand. My left palm swelled to a point that it looked like a golf ball had been implanted uner my skin!

The pic below is two full days after the plant, and there is massive blood vessel breakage! I'm taking anti-inflammatories and icing it, and the swelling is down but still there.

Anyway, can anyone recommend a really good, effective "palm" guard or a wrist guard that has adequate palm protection? There are some made for roller blading, but the palm thing is too narrow to give full protection *across* the palm. Please post links of any that you may know of on the web. Thanks to all!

These are inexpensive but very effective. I've put them through the test

They also have a fingerless glove.

I don't like the stap type like those or the KH gloves. It feels like to get decent wrist protection they have to be really tight. Besides, I think a wrist brace is overkill and what is needed is PALM protection.

I like the Rollerblade 3D wrist guard here
They are cool, and I don't have to take off my watch. I like to wear women's goatskin gardening gloves underneath, good finger protection and nice sllim fit.

These have broad palm protection w/ brace here(sorry didn't see any in US)

The good thing about wrist guards is that they move the break to the arm, which is much easier to deal with than a broken wrist

Boy; you bruise up real good. If I'm not mistaken you did an elbow not all that long ago that was also quite a site to see.

I am still in the process of recovering from a broken wrist that occured last April. In order to get back to riding I went to a set of TSG wrist guards (sorry I don't have a link) which are primarly designed for the snow board crowd

I looked at different types of full palmed roller blade style guards but felt that these would be quite restricitive in grabbing a seat handle. My TSG's don't seem to get in the way to badly.

This being said however, I'm not sure that the snowboard style of guard would protect the area that you have injured.

Hope it heals up quickly for you.

Hey thanks (everybody) for the good info; it's quite appreciated!

looking for new wrist guards

I had a minor UPD yesterday; fortunately I was not hurt as I was wearing some cheapo wrist and knee protectors. They are the ones like skaters use, with the smooth plastic palm. When I did my hand plant yesterday, the plastic surface allowed my hands to move across the pavement without potentially "digging in" and causing worse injury.

We have been having some cooler weather lately, and my wrist guards do not allow me to easily wear gloves. So if it gets really cold, I have to decide between warm hands and protected hands.

I'd like to replace these with something better. My riding is pretty much totally on pavement and I don't do jumps or spins.

I'd like something that IS a glove or allows me to wear a glove with it. Though gloves do not apppear to typically have the hard plastic palm. They need to be easily cleanable also (my current ones stink...literally)

The Rollerblade 3D palm protectors looked interesting, though I can't seem to find the ones pictured, and don't appear to protect the wrist. Anything other options I should consider?

Suggestions appreciated.

I've been using the Harbinger Wrist Wrap 230W http://www.unicycle.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=395 along with Iron Clad gloves. https://www.ironclad.com/www/product...ID=50&catID=25 The gloves offer general protection and the wrist wraps protect from hard impacts. What I like about having separate gloves and wrist protection, is that, if I want warmer gloves for winter riding, I can swap them out. The other thing that I like about the separates is that If the gloves get damaged, I can replace the gloves and not the whole wrist guard.
I can also have a spare set of gloves to change into incase the first set gets wet or really dirty. When they get dirty, I throw them in the washer and hang up to dry.

I keep trying to figue out how a palm tree did this to you! As the say "Play you Pay!" I am using the new KH wrist/gloves and really like them. Had a really good "palm plant" last week end and no pain.
