That's an incredible coincidence! Someone I vaguely know on the Internet has a friend whose uncle is going to be running for president in 2008.

Is this kind of coincidence considered irony?

I always get irony and coincidence confused.

I ran for governor of Illinois.

The two candidates were an equally horrible choice so I wrote myself in at the ballot box.

I wouldn't want to write in my own name on a ballot because I know that Mickey Mouse would get more votes than I would (he usually appears in the top 3 write in votes), and I don't want to "lose" to a fictional cartoon character.

Actually, I heard that if you receive a certain amount(100+) of write in votes while running for an office you receive a plaque of some sort from the government. Anyone know if this is true?

So you have to register to vote, but theoreticly anyone could wake up one morning and be governor of Illinois without any prior warning?
I know it won't happen, but it's a strange thought.

One time I read about a candidate who died somehow before the elections for governor someplace, but he won anyway.
It was on Jay Leno I think.

Seems to me that it was Missouri some years ago.

So, you oughta talk everyone here on this forum to write in your name for president in '08. Shouldn't be a problem since we can all be pretty sure the choices for both parties will be scumbags anyway. Heck, I don't even know you but I'll bet you'd make a better president than just about any politician. At the very least, you might get a plaque. Good luck.

It was John Ashcroft, statue breast covering former Bush attorney general who as an incumbent in 2000 lost senate seat to the then recently deceased Mel Carnahan.

Technically, that does not qualify as "running for office." this does: http://www.ehow.com/how_16911_run-public-office.html

I did most of those things, if anything, they were accomplished in the last few moments at the ballot box with an audience of one.

That's a funny coincidence. I wrote you in also at the ballot box, just this past Tuesday. There were two Republican candidates running for offices un-opposed, and I just couldn't bring myself to join their camp. SOMEBODY had to stand up to them Bruce, and as it turned out that somebody was you.

I've never been prouder to have you as an internet friend, even though you pretty much got your ass kicked.

Wow, I ran for governor in two states at the same time! That must be some sort of record.
