Hurricane my @$$

This sh*t is weak. Some wind, yeah, but it didn't even rain last night! So many people have boarded up their windows/put shutters up, and so many more have even left town. I understand that they're "preparing for the worst", but NOAA and the weather channel have been telling us all along that it's just another tropical storm.

There was a 'regular' storm here last week that had hail, 60mph winds, and torrential rain (about 3 inches), and since the winds weren't tropical storm strength (and it formed over land), there was just a 'SEVERE WEATHER WATCH FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES...' on TV. That storm did more damage.

It's windy here, but no damage. Everyone was really overestimating this tropical storm. Public schools were closed on Tuesday, and all schools are closed today - and it's a nice, cool breezy day! My college is closed on all campuses. I've gone to school on days much worse than this.

What Hurricane? Except for a brief time before Haiti when it got Cat1 it has been TS or TD the whole time.

After that last two seasons, it's nice to have a dud for once.

If you get a real Hurricane this year I'll pack my uni before I head out.

What's your point? Isn't it better to overestimate than underestimate? Wouldn't it have been better for New Orleans and the Gulf coast last year if they had overestimated?

Of course it would, but then again, if you cry wolf too many times, the urgency wears off. I think the reason everybody was so hyped up about that particlar storm was its timing. What was exactly a year ago? Oh, just turn on the TV to see specials about it on multiple channels... I think if the same storm had come a month earlier or later, the "official" reaction would have been much milder.
