Define "own".

I live in a condo currently, so I "own" a fraction of interest in the land that the complex is built on.

Before, I owned a house that was built on a parcel that was about 1/6 of an acre.

As a taxpayer, I "own" a fraction of all public land under the jurisdiction of the City of San Ramon, Contra Costa County, the State of California, and the U.S.

Our lot is 128x75 but until I have a land patent on it, I won't ever own it entirely.

We, along with the bank, mostly the bank, have a little less than an acre. 1/4 of an acre is where our house and backyard is. The rest is part of an overgrown ravine that our town foisted on us, and our neighbors, when they needed to divest of it in order to get some state money to develop other parts of the town.

Small though our lot is, stuck in the middle of milktoast suburban New Jersey, it is a little piece of heaven on earth which we're grateful to be able to afford and call our own.

Well, I suppose you don't mind having a backyard that is too small to do anything on? No privacy unless you have an 8 foot high fence?

Acctually that's good that some people like living like that. More room for everyone else!

What is it you do in your backyard that you couldn't just as easily do in a shared public space?

Privacy is overrated. Humans are social animals so why would you want to distance yourself from everybody else?

Any "Acerage" in LA county for example, like, say Beverly hills, or even Torrance, CA will be in the MILLIONS of bucks! (Considering current property valuses.) Of course, you can get waaaaay more land, and yes, acres of land for much, MUCH less; depending on WHERE it is. It's all about Location, Location, Location. I may not have an "acre" of land surrounding my house, but I'm darn proud to own my home! And it's not too bad living close to the beach! (Now there's some high-priced diggs!)
