Thumbs up King Kong

Peter Jackson's King Kong is by far the best movie in years for pure action and special effects. On these two counts I have never spent 2 3/4 hours more utterly engrossed with my disbelief so totally suspended. As far as I'm concerned he has surpassed The Lord of the Rings by quite a bit.

First the special effects were nearly flawlessly executed. The movements of each and every fictional beast seems completely natural. There is only one questionable scene which even in retrospect appears to have been deliberate.

As for the action, just about every aspect of the story has been taken to new levels which are mind blowing - within the context of cinema, of course - and yet compelling and believable.

I have never enjoyed action and special effects this much. I have never been as diverted by an action picture to this extent. I am in awe.

As for the racial politics of the story, not much has changed and I can only imagine what some activists will have to say.

And without providing any spoilers I will say simply that this movie fails where virtually all of its genre have. The human emotions and character traits such as love, greed, and bravery don't seem appropriate within the extreme conditions the characters find themselves in.

But as far as pure movie fun goes, this is the best I've ever seen. Aliens - the second in the series - has always been my favorite action picture, but this just may replace it.

I personally didn't like it very much.
it seemed so...fake, and cartoon like, and the acting was way overdramatized.
and the part with the bugs was nasty, oh man, that was horrible.
the part with the scary natives was really cool though, it scared me bad.

I have to disagree with this.

Check out some of the old silents and films from the 30s. This aspect is stylistically in keeping with the period.

Oh, and how could we forget to mention that there is a very brief bit of unicycling at the beginning of the movie. Juggling, too.

Has anyone seen the King Kong Burgar King Commercials? Its so so soooo sick! This girl eats a burgar... which is bigger than her head. Well, takes a bit out of it, but just the mere size of the burger is nasty.

oh.. yeah this may be unrelated... but... I had to say it-its been driving me nuts.

I didn't see the unicycling, but the juggling definitely caught my eye...actually, after the juggling started, I was watching to see if there was a unicycle, but didn't see one.

It's at the very beginning of the Vaudeville show at the very beginning of the movie. If you've seen the juggling and not seen the unicycling, then you've already missed it. And, needless to say, as far as unicycling goes, it's nothing to write home about. (Although it is something to waste ink on here).

That's similar to all I could think about when I had to watch Clifford the Big Red Dog.
