When All Your Hero's Are Gone.

A few years ago I met and had the chance to work with one of my life long idols and hero's. I was setting up an elite program and I bumbed into him one day. I didn't even know the guy lived in town and so was very stoked when he said he would come and work with me. Things were great and we were doing quite well, then I all started to change. Now I have realised that this man is not only horrible at what we do, he is the world's biggest dick hed to boot. I have contemplated leaving, but thie situation is sticky, so I put up with his crap everyday and vow that I will leave, but I can't. Anyway, I just feel like one of my hero's got killed by the villian and now I have no one to look up to. It hurts that I trusted this guy and now he is a moron.
Sorry for waisting your time, I just had to get that off my chest. Thanks

Anyone famous? Judging by your line of work he would have to be "in" with the figure-skating community right?

So yeah.. who is this guy?

Yeah, who is it.

I'm glad you got it off your chest but this uber vague description of the situation confuses me.

Details please?

Fortunately the unicycling heroes are all very nice people and all very helpful and supportive.

I don't know who or what the heck you're referring too, but I do feel for ya, man. Even heroes can be scumbags. =(

I am sorry for your tsuris, but that is a very fine turn of malapropism.

Imagine if George W Bush had been your hero.

George H. W. Bush makes a good hero.

Politicians make poor choices for heroes just because of the nature of politics.

It's a crappy experience, right up there with figuring out that your dad isn't really a secret agent and doesn't own the world, that the tooth faery is a myth and santa claus a lie, that the elephant is smaller than you remember and the one clown is unshaven. It's just not nice losing something/someone who occupied a special position in your life. I do not envy you being trapped in the kind of situation you're in right now.

Hang in there.
And pick another hero.

Better still, be your own hero.

It's fine to admire other people for their achievements. It's commendable to strive to emulate them.

But if you fall down to worship at the feet of the idol, you will see its feet are made of clay.

Hero worship is a first step towards suspending your own judgement of right and wrong.

You can do nothing directly about someone else's faults except learn to live with them. You can do something directly about your own.

To paraphrase Seneca: when you think of those who are ahead of you, remember that there are as many again behind you. Men are born unequal, but die equal. Of one thing make sure: that your faults die before you.

He got an ice pick
That made his ears burn
Whatever happened to dear old Lenny?
The great Elmyra, and Sancho Panza?
Whatever happened to the heroes?
Whatever happened to the heroes?

Whatever happened to all the heroes?
All the Shakespearoes?
They watched their Rome burn
Whatever happened to the heroes?
Whatever happened to the heroes?

No more heroes any more

Thanks Mikefule, for brightening up my day yet again.

Paraphrasing Seneca and quoting the Stranglers in consecutive posts, too. Call me Mr. Renaissance Man.
