Photo judging opportunity #2
Thank you Yoopers and john childs for your input! I also appreciate your technical critique “one on one” Thank you for sharing some lighting techniques. :-)
Thanks for taking the time to help me out with my photography. I tried some more photos of the button using some of your suggestions, here are the results: Again critiques and votes welcome!

That's pretty good. Now you need to control the hot area in the upper right of the photo. I included a shot of the Susan B Anthony coin that I photographed a few minutes ago to give you an idea.

Boy this is tuff. I like the color in the first photo, but really like the dark background in the last photo. The detail is good in all three. I just detest the shadow being cast in the light background photos.

Here is a photo I took trying to imitate your lighting setup; what might I do to inprove? The DOF is too shallow, right?

Nice job. You are correct about the depth of field being a bit shallow. You could correct that by having the face of the button more in the same plane. Leave a bit more room around your subject. This will also help your depth of field as you move back a little. The dark shadow gives the illusion that the button is floating. Neither good or bad, depends on what your goal is. If you want a softer shadow, use a fill card in front to lighten up the shadow.
The lighting on the coin is terrific and the background looks really good, nice and uniform. I've included your photo with a bit more background around your subject and the button sharpened up some.

I have taken over 300 photos of this button! It has certainly been a learning experience to work of my studio photography skill!
Unless there is something that could be easily improved I think I'm done button photography for a while. For me this is the best photo I have taken; "One on one" do you think the composition is right? I can try a different crop if need be.

If you would like a new challenge / learning experience, try photographing silverwear.
