forum indicator and some other issues.

this isnt a gripe, just what i have noticed so far.

1) the forum indicater forgets me just for getting off the net to use the phone unlike the old style. (fast auto log out) most threads show as "unread" even after logging back in 5 minutes later.

2) the search couldnt find the Chess Touney thread with the key word being "chess"

3) the Private Messages dont show as read or unread in the PM tracking or the "last online" feature, thats gone missing.

Do you get logged out of the site. Are the unread threads ones that you have already read? Last night I changed the setting to use the database to track the time of every thread you read instead of setting everything read after 15 minutes.

Search still not working? Last night I also changed the search index to a different method. The chess tourney thread does appear in the search for me.

The PM tracking has the confirmed ones on top and the unconfirmed on the bottom.

seems to be remembering what ive read now while in a set forum....but on the main forum page, the one where you choose from them all..that one always shows that there is new stuff in every forum even if there isnt . hmm?

search looks good now too.

still i dont see a "user last online" status though.

The main forum page shows if you have any unread posts. I agree that it should be if there are any new posts since the last time you checked that forum. Maybe I'll find a plugin to do that. BTW you can browse around at http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=109 to see if there are any features you think I should add to the site.

Yeah, I didn't see a last online thing either.

The '15 most recent searches' looks interesting, but I guess all it'll do for us is show us how people aren't searching for any of the common questions before asking them.
Then again, if there is a display of '15 most recent searches, it might help drive people towards the search function?
What's the consensus in the 'Forum-Master' world on this issue?

Oooh! Can anyone say LoganA?

I don't like it as it's a privacy issue. As far as the search, I want to change the site to have a nice obvious search bax at the top of the page. I also want to get a content system up which would have the most frequently asked kind of things in them.

That just seems cruel though... I do now have access to adding a user to a sitewide ignorelist.

Yeah, I think there's value in an expanded version of that kind of thing tho. Make it more specific so you can keep specific posters away from specific kinds of threads, like me and Zod away from anything to do with abortion and Harper away from anything about black unitards, that kind of thing.

I've been thinking about the search thing and realised that quite often I'll search for the oddest words cause I'm looking for a specific post that I seem to remember included that word. If those searches had to pasted across the front page, I might end up looking like a bit of an odd 'un occasionally.

That's a new feature. It's intended so that if you are at some other computer, such as at a public place, you don't stay logged in where the next user could post as you or do other things to your account.
