safety equipment

What is the best type of safety equipment to ride with? Helmet, shin guards, and gloves? It seems you would need more protection than that to go down stairs and off 3 foot drops.

No, not really, a lot of people do more/higher than that wearing no saftey equipment at all.

A helment is pretty standered, shingaurds are nice to avaid pedal bites, and gloves are good to keep your palms from getting road rash. Most people dont need all that everytime, but it never hurts to be prepard.

doing stairs and 3 foot drops you should be fine with helmet and shin guards. gloves are nice, and if you're really worried and/or are trying significantly larger stuff fore arm guards are nice i'm told. i dunno i don't wear them.

Id say, in order of need:

1. Shin/knee guards (661, roach or simliar)
2. Wrist guards/gloves (harbinger, TSW, 661, KH Pulse)
3. Helmet
4.Forearm/elbow guards (same as leg)

I ways wear the first two to ride, even if only freestyle, the second two are really only for long rough rides where i'm going to get tired and fall off alot. I think the helmet is a little overrated, it's surprisingly hard to hit your head on the floor unicycling, out of the group of 6 i ride with no-one's done it in over two years, but we have had broken ribs fingers etc. Doubtless someone's going to post their 'helmet saved my life' storey now. Also i would really reccomend wrist guards over gloves, even forgetting their ability to keep your wirst in a straight line the hard plastic splint allows your wrists to slide along the road nice and easy, making it almost impossible to abrade your hands. Obviously KH sounds best as it is both. Looking at the state of my splints i doubt i'd have any wrists left if i didn't wear them.

Incidently i think this would have been fine in RSU.
