I wanted Gilby or Klaas to research this once. I had a period of thread killing that seemed to go on for quite awhile. I would like to know the number of threads in which one has made the last post as well as the ratio of threads started to threads killed and posts made to threads killed.
That would be AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Microsoft Research has a project called Netscan
Netscan - Social Accounting Search Engine Netscan analyzes conversational social cyberspaces like Usenet newsgroups and email lists. It provides new ways of sifting through large volumes of message content and supports a form of reputation system based on the bahvioral histories of participants in conversational spaces. Unfortunately they don't track the number of threads killed by a poster. They should. That's valuable information for the kind of analysis they're trying to do. Here's a link to their statistics on RSU: Netscan report for RSU

Tim I remember your Threadkiller thing.
John that Netscan is quite interesting. I'll have to look at it in more detail. Harper that would be an interesting bit of research that you're proposing. My analysing software can't do it but I have been in communication with someone who can add capabilities to what I can do currently - in this respect that is. So [i]maybe[i] next year. Hey how do I nest vB code? I wanted one word to be large, italic, bold AND in color. You catch my drift. Klaas Bil |

Thanks GILD, sequence matters and I made a few stupid mistakes.
Off-topic (unless one considers that this prevents GILD from being the thread killer): In the overview view of Just Conversation, I clicked on my name behind this very thread (in the Last post column) to bring up my profile, but it brought up GILD's profile instead. I tried it a couple of times, with other people it worked fine but not with this very one thread. Turns out that GILD had posted in this thread after my screen was refreshed. So my name was still mentioned as the last poster, but the link went to the profile of the real last poster, i.e. GILD in this case. Sounds like a bug to me, but a funny one. Klaas Bil |

i don't consider the title 'thread killer' neccesarily as an insult
i would use that term in a complimentary way to describe john childs because of his habit of answering a threads main question in such a thorough way, that no futher discussion is neccesary i think in my case, i do flog the odd dead horse and since i have this terminal problem with trying to get in the last word...

Perhaps a new term is needed.
How about Thread-Putterer-to-Rester or maybe Thread-Nipperer-in-the-Bud.

I think it applies much more to RecSport than to Just Conversation. The point of RecSport is different from JustConversation. Just Conversation is like when we're all sitting around the bar having a lively conversation, and it's fun. Then you arrive and quietly listen while the conversation continues. Then you say something. Then nobody says anything else..... Billy

Let's see who kills this thread... He would have to be the ultimate killer...

Thread killers have different qualities in different forums.
IE: 1. I tend to be a thread killer in a 'tech' forum I belong. ... Due to I give a solution/answer to a posters question or problem. (last post) .... (and the original postes rarely post back a 'thank you') .... and as metioned above I usually DO 'thank you' an reply to any of my threads. (last post) 2. In an 'off topic' forum. I tend to 'correct' or 'straighten out' some rather unrulely thread topics before they turn ugly sometimes. (in a sort of 'forum police' kinda way) Anyway ... those are some 'thread killer' patterns I've noticed.
