At a softball game earlier, messing with my yoyos doing tricks, a kid comes up, (remembering me from several weeks ago riding my uni around the park) and is asking me several things about yoyos and diabolos. He then tells me that "Next time, bring your diabolo/chinese yoyo, and also bring that...that tire thing!"
I've never heard of that phrase before...about to ride my tire thing this weekend if the weather allows

Yesterday I was taking a Coker rest at the top of a hill near Microsoft and a fella waiting for his bus asked me:
"Is that safer than a bike?" I didn't know WHAT to say, of course I was gasping for oxygen after the hill and couldn't think clearly. I've heard a lot, but never been asked that.

This morning I was riding my 36 around the neighborhood and saw a woman walking. She said "Hello" and asked where I bought my unicycle, so I stopped and talked a minute. Turns out she has an autistic son who "can't do anything but he can ride a unicycle." She was interested in getting him a bigger wheel; maybe I'll see him riding around the neighborhood.

I caught out a few people a couple of weeks back - travelling into town to go ride with some friends at the skatepark - riding my 29" and had my 20" over my shoulder which many people seemed to fail to notice at first glance.

"Ride over a big bump" - some kids from my son's school who I met on a local common and wanted to see what I could do - they came chasing me on their bikes. I ride to school quite often, so they've seen me on it, but not riding muni.

At the end of ride, I heard a young boy (maybe about 5) shout at the top of his voice: "Hey look there's that re-cyclist!"

Today, each time I road pass a guy sitting there with his guitar, he looked at me as if he was about to ask something, but never said anything. About an hour later, while I am stopped along the pedestrian walkway, he comes running up. As he approaches, I think he's going to ask me that important unicycle question.
"Where are the restrooms?" ![]() Yesterday, passed a group, and one guy said they were taking a collection to buy me a second wheel.

Getting ready for a muni ride at a nearby lake, a young lady asked, "Are you going to stay on the concrete?" I replied, "No".

(I'm sure there are already many variants to this quote, but I will post anyway).
On about my third day of learning to ride, I was at the local park. A woman arrived, and began a solo martial arts routine with a bamboo staff. She was directly in front of me, facing me, about 30 ft away. I tried to ride, but never got more than 2 or 3 strokes before falling. I kept at it for an hour, so I must have fallen at least 30 times in a row, sometimes badly. When she was leaving she asked, "Is that hard?" |
