Jamey, that Kokomo song from the Beach Boys is another good one. It got sooooo overplayed back when it came out. I think it was 1982 or so when any radio station that had it on it's list was a total wasteland. Blech. I still can't listen to that song any more.

In the same category is Start Me Up by the Rolling Stones. Whatever year that was, also down the tubes on all rock stations. Ick.

867-5309 Jenny -- I never found that one annoying. Of course my number wasn't 867-5309. I think the phone companies of the world *still* can't use that number in any area code in countries where that song is played. And that's a lot of area codes.

BTW, it goes "8 6 7 5 3 0 niiiiiieeeiiiiiien" like that.

And for the newest addition to the annoying songs:

Red Wine by UB40. Could there be a song with any less words?

If you think yes, think again. How about Follow the Yellow Brick Road. Yup, depending how you count it, five words.

I just read through all of this thread. Many of the titles and fragments are quite powerfully trying to get stuck in my head. Three circumstances (if circumstances can be counted anyways) to counter that very real danger:

1. I'm reading them all in one go, so they should sort of cancel each other.

2. I am listening to music (Yes - Tormato). The funny though also somewhat disturbing thing is that almost all titles and lyrics posted manage to push Yes away, at least for a brief moment.

3. After this I will go to bed, and sleep (if I can catch it!) will be merciful on me.

The research link by Gilby was frightening. This guys' results are expected to improve advertisers's music ability to get stuck in your head - this is just plain IMMORAL!

I don't know Red Wine by UB40. But all of five words? Our music group has a Klezmer song on the repertoire that counts a mere two words. Well, they are repeated a few times (sung four times in total) but on the sheet music they appear only once. The two words are "oy tate". And the song title is "Dem Rebin's nigun, oy tate". But of course, rather than a song you could also call it a tune where two words wandered in and got lost.

This may be the perfect solution for "that song stuck in your head." With so many songs listed, it may be next to impossible to keep any one song in there for very long.

Bodies in the sand
Tropical drink melting in your hand

You know the funny thing is that Kokomo is in indiana...

how about the macarena. Not only is it extremely repetitive(therefore easy to get stuck in my head) It also has an atrocious video that I also picture in my head. Horrible. I kind of like the oompa loompa song especially the remake that was done in and episode of the family guy.
