Handle modification
I’ve eventually got around to modifying my Muni handle to fit the Magura HS11 brake lever I bought. The necessity for this modification is in this thread .
The handle was made from an old bike seat post ages ago and the new ‘growth’ to mount the brake lever on is part of an old bar end I had lying around. The lever is now where I wanted it to be. Here’s the pics. |

Tested
I’ve now taken my Muni out down some steep hills to test the brake and with one slight niggle regarding the end of the brake lever (which I have ideas about) the brake performed brilliantly.
I did have one scary moment down a steep section that on previous rides without a brake I had taken cautiously (trees, ruts, roots, bushes, very narrow sections…fun) but today I found myself tearing down much faster than I normally would. Then about halfway down the bit in unizabo where Kris is riding down the mountain at a silly speed before falling suddenly flashed into my head and I saw myself coming off into a tree or something so I quickly slowed down. I don’t think I was going anywhere near the speed Kris was but it felt how I imagined he must have felt though my limits are someway below his. Incidentally it was on the Muni ride at BUC 10 when I saw Kris using his brake going down some huge drops that I decided to get one, just took longer than I expected. Normally I’m a (relatively) cautious rider so I can only put it down to being over confident, has anyone else become over confident after fitting a brake? Looking back I actually enjoyed it, strangely, well I must have as I went down the same section several more times though not as fast as the first but faster than without a brake. Cheers, Gary |
