Talking Long Time Listener, First Time Caller

Hello all! I've lurked these forums for a few months, and I think that now is a good time to jump into the fray.

Without going through my whole life story, I found unicycling on Christmas while at my relatives' house. They had a cheap, little unicycle with a way-too-low seat. To top things off, I was feeling a bit nauseous from some bug I had picked up during my time home. I tried and I failed. Dizzy and disoriented, I gave up after 15 minutes or so. However, for some odd reason, I thought, "hey, this would be great," so I started looking up unicycle information online. Since this community is so (unfortunately) tiny, finding good resources isn't hard to do. And, thusly, I ended up here.

Over the next few days I read everything I could about this sport. I picked up so much insight before ever getting on another unicycle. After a lot of researching, I ended up ordering a 20" Torker LX and, upon receiving the delivery, got to work on January 6. I was up and riding free about a week later and now, after a little less than three months, I'm an unofficial Level 2 rider.

I'd just like to take time now in this horribly long post to thank all of you guys for being here as part of the best group of people around. The unicycling community possesses a level of camaraderie and goodwill that one cannot find just anywhere. Even the most skilled riders are down to earth and humble, willing to lend helpful advice to the newest of newbies. Thanks.

Anyway, now that I've made my "ceremonial" first post, I reckon I'll be posting here more often than never, initially with some questions concerning my first big purchase and whatever other areas I can offer a bit of assistance or interesting conversation. This post is way too long, so I think it's time to stop typing.

Thanks a lot,

Allen

No, he'll want one after he sees how small a 29r really is, it's basically a trials uni...he needs a trials uni too.

Oh no, Allen, get ready!

Oh, I'm ready. I'm already pretty much decided on a new KH 24" once unicycle.com receives its delayed shipment.

I'm used to this "about to spend waaay too much money" feeling--I already play guitar.

Isn't it funny how everything has a group of 'I'll spend anything' followers?

'You spent $4000 on a bicycle?????(cdn)' I got once, as the sayer, then peered into his $2000 bird spotting scope (binoculars on a tripod)

After Moab this year, I've decided that my KH24 needs about $400 of upgrades (carbon air-seat, reeder handle, magura brakes....etc)

It's a great cycle!!!

wow I can relate to that... In the last week I've spent about $300 on my guitar and it looks like next week I'm gonna drop another $200.
I'd love to get myself a coker sometime too but I don't know if that's gonna be easy to do! Either that or upgrades to my KH20 (I really need to upgrade those wellgo pedals they really suck).
I'm spending money as fast as I can make it!

Hey, fellow Illinois-type person. Want an opportunity to really zoom up the skill hill? The Midwest Regionals will be held up in Minny (that's Minneapolis, just in case) on May 8. We're hopefully going to travel up on Friday night and plan to spend the weekend there. If you attend, you will have a chance to see some of the top unicycle talent in these here parts...heck, in the world. Be sure to bring a bandaid or two for the scrapes on your chin when your jaw repeatedly hits the ground. Awesome unicycling will abound! Check out the details at http://www.tcuc.org

I rode my first Coker at Regionals a couple years ago so you'll definitely want to get the Coker first but not before you buy a Municycle. In other words, they both need a home in your garage.

Hope to see you...and others...there.

Let me join the welcome choir. And I agree: MUni before Coker.
