Short crank arms on the Coker

I was running the longer (6" I think) crank arms and went to the shorter (5"??) articles for the sake of velocity and found this produces a very different animal to ride. Sort of like piloting a big flywheel -- harder to turn, and much harder to idle and peddle backwards. I trust I'll catch on in time, but for now it feels like a semi-truck. Faster? Absolutely, but I had to get off the saddle to grind up even modest hills, and slowing down reminds me of horseback riding.
