My uncle moved from his farm about 5 or 6 years ago, and while he was packing stuff up, he found my cousin's old unicycle. He gave it to me, since nobody else was going to ride it. It was an old piece of junk, but I decided that I might as well learn to ride it since I was now the proud owner of a unicycle.

Thirty four years ago a neighborhood buddy of mine and I decided we wanted to learn how to ride a uni. We joined the Unique Unicycle Club of Phoenix, Az and proceeded to learn how. We rode in many local parades, dressed up, and rode/UPD on all sizes of uni's. Gave it up for girls and snow skiing for thirty years until my wife found a old one at a garage sale, in 2001'. After thirty years of not riding, I got right back on it and rode away with a HUGE smile on my face. Learning new sports as an adult can suck, if injury is possible, so getting back on w/o problems was great. Thanks to unicylce.com and newsgroups like this, I have hit it hard for three years now. Now my kids ride, and we have 6 uni's in the garage. Best sport around, that and telemark skiing.

It took me ages, but I did do it. I also use the Petrus method. Have you checked out the Fridrich method?

And make sure to submit your times to the speedcubing.com world record's page!

unicycling

My girlfriend worked at unicycle.com and still has strong ties to those crazy people I like to call my friends. So naturally I tried it and liked it so she got me one for christmas 2002. Now I am president of the Berry College Unicycle Society and am about to buy a new cycle next week. Yea I love it.

Well, I lived in Greenville, NC and one of the guys I juggled with had been unicycling for 30 years, and he was so good that HIS skill on the unicycle inspired ME to try it. So after having a go at his six foot giraffe for a few weeks, I finally broke down and bought my own five foot giraffe so I could ride all the time and learn to ride more skillfully than I was. Along the way I met some good friends, all of whom live in different states now and we had some good times terrorizing the campus on 3 unicycles... that was back when I only had Eloise #1 and eventually the LOTUS

I found my first uni at a flea market for $15. Took one look at it and decided to buy it and try to learn to ride. That was in February. Since then I've purchased a 20" Torker, a 24x3 Yuni Muni, a 28" Sun and then bought a Coker a couple weeks ago. I hope I learn how to control this spending habit soon

when I was little I had the SID syndrome, and the doctors thought I would develop extra slowly, and maybe not catch up to normal kids. My parents thought that a unicycle might help me develop faster so they built me one out of an old tricycle, by using only the front wheel and attaching the seat above it. I learned to ride by the time I was four. It must have done something to help because I am eleven years old now and I have been in college part-time for the last two years.

how...

I think I thought to look up unicycles one day on the computer, found unicycle.com and decided to get a unicycle or something like that. Since then i've found out that it's really fun, and challenging, which is a good combanation.

my uncle (unibrier) has been doing it for years and last summer (2002) we went on a big family caping trip and he brought a few. naturally i tried and tried and tried but could not go more than a half crank so when i got home i bought one of my own (cheep norco w/lollipop bearings) and eventually learned then a few months later i got a schwinn. still not that good tho and unfortunately havent had much saddle time lately

Well, my parents taught me in different ways that made everything kind of a game, and also I think it really helped that I did the unicycling, because that helps the right and left hemispheres of the brain work together. I know that also people make up things on the internet that aren't really true, so if you would like I could send you some articles about it.

Also the unicycling has helped because a lot of other people in the university are kind of awkward talking to me, thinking that I am only interested in studying, but when they see me riding unicycle they know that I'm also interested in a lot of other kinds of things, and having fun, and they also have something immediate to talk about.
after they find out about my unicycling then they get to find out about a lot of the other things that I do, like writing and drawing and breeding plants and about different pets that I have, like my flying squirrel and snakes and mice.

PS: I've also read all of the Harry Potter books ^_~

Two summers ago I had a huge career move imposed on me via some drastic budget cuts by the Ministry of Education here in B.C. It was an unexpected change for me after working in the same setting for 13 years and I wasn't entirely sure I was ready for the unsolicited switch.
I was to have the entire summer to ruminate over the upcoming new position that was to begin with the school year in September. I decided I needed to do something, no, really, accomplish something that summer so that I could have a fun distraction and a feeling of personal success from which to spring board into my new career direction.
I learned to unicycle that summer and spent the entire following school year commuting to school on one wheel and celebrating the career change which turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to me in the world of work.

I think it was around 1969, anyway I was 12 years old. Someone in the neighborhood had this cheap uni from J.C. Penny. I ended up with it 'cause I just thought it would be a cool thing to do. I taught myself to ride. I saved up enough money and bought myself a new Columbia uni. A friend of mine had also learned to ride and we used to ride all over town.
