2003 North American Unicycling Championships
So I come home today to a great suprise. I open my mail to find a FOURTH PLACE ribbon for MUni Orienteering in the 16-39 age group! I can't wait to go to work and brag about how there were only 3 people in the UNITED STATES that are better than me in this Championship Event!
It was a group effort though and I do have to give credit to the little people. No really They are little people, I had a brother and sister that left me in the dust on my team. They were about 8 and 10. For them to do the event the mother wanted them to pair up with a responcible adult. Since none were available I got the job. I happen to be an expert at map reading and was able to give them directions and let them do the running up to sign off on our sheet. So they actually rode a little further than me, of course I was doing this on a KH24 with 170's. If I had 140's we might have done a little better. Anyway it was nice to be reminded today of the fun I had in MN, and look forward to next time. Also it is nice to now I am in the top 4!!!

I have the flames, and I know that helped, but it must not be enough... Of course I could practice, enter more than 2 events, and get a few more task specific Uni's! Congratulations on your mucho success. I don't think they could tolerate me at work if I came back with that many ribbons.

Anyone know when the results are going to be posted? I've been looking at http://www.unicycling.org/usa/ and http://www.tcuc.org/ for results, but nothing has been posted yet.

Hey Bugman,
Are you sure there were only 3 people in the UNITED STATES that are better than you in this Championship Event? As it is the North American Unicycle Convention and Championship. Maybe the other three are from Canada and Puerto Rico. Just my two cents. |

First place, blue ribbon for Beginner Over 40 Muni Trials. That trials course was the most fun a person should be legally allowed to have.

Of course we weren't necessarily the best out of the whole US (or US + Canada + Puerto Rico); just out of those who attended and entered. But that's all that matters as far as a championships is concerned. You have to show up to win. BTW the most meaningful event to me this year was my third place finish in the 10k race. Elijah Parker beat me by a long ways, and Ryan Woessner beat me by a little, but I was proud to have stayed ahead of everyone else, and only bested by two guys that had finished a 600-mile tour of Norway a month earlier. I won some first places, including some overall firsts such as in the obstacle course, but none of those involved the effort to do well in the 10k.

Officially Level 2! :)

Hey, I got a second place ribbon for Orienteering for female 13-16 age group in the mail a few days ago. I was really happy because I had gotten 4 other ribbons but they were all 5th place.
![]() David Ramos was my partner, which helped. I had trouble keeping up with him because he's so fast, and I was on a 20" and he was on a 24". It was one of the most fun things I participated in. ![]() Nikki

Re: 2003 North American Unicycling Championships
Way to go - now you can try arial unicycling!
You take your tire off, string a rope, and climb up a pole. Then you ride across! Well obviously you need more challenging rides! ![]() "bugman" <bugman.vbpps@timelimit.unicyclist.com> wrote in message news:bugman.vbpps@timelimit.unicyclist.com... > > So I come home today to a great suprise. But I remember getting RACKED only once. An absolute classic: Launch gap, feet come of pedals, miss gap, uni lands perfectly balanced, rider lands into perfect foot-less still stand...full force . Thank goodness for cycling shorts and a cushy KH seat or the twins would still be rebounding today. Thanks for the memory.

I rode in my very first Muni event with a goal to finish. At the end, I thought I had finished last but discovered to my delight that I had actually beaten two six-year-old girls who got lost in the woods.
It felt good to know I had bested two superior riders. Bruce Last edited by yoopers; 2003-10-18 at 03:28 AM. |
