I see police are now investigating the role of FaceBook and Twitter in organising the riots.

comes from cree kisiskâciwan (fast flowing - in relation to the river) There was some unrest in Sewwepemc relating to land rights a few years ago. on the news they just kept saying "a first nations community in BC" I don't think anyone wanted to try pronouncing that one.

Eish, we've got some seriously difficult-to-pronounce African names and surnames that pop up in our news occasionally. My general rule of thumb is to just rush into it and not to stop. Once you show any hesitation, you're lost.
Which language is that from? |

The "first nations" concept is interesting.
660 different groups? Thank boris for a generic term. |

yah the term First Nations works quite well when talking about various bands/groups but not really when talking about individuals.
Started writing up a big writeup, then started fact-checking, then remembered I actually need to wake up at a reasonable hour and deleted it all. great finally listening to a bit of your show. happy woman's day!

Funny you linked to Laurie's blog - she's a pal o' mine. There's a video on the Guardian website from a few months ago when the closure of eight out of thirteen youth centres around Tottenham was announced. One of the kids being interviewed said there'd be riots on the streets if the closures went ahead... Shame we only start paying attention to deprivation once it gets a bit spectacular. There's also a lovely quote from Nick Clegg during last year's election campaign, before he jumped into bed with ol' shiny face, warning of riots if the Tories got in... Anyhow, how is everyone? Anyone want to buy a new laptop or some trainers? Heard there's loads going cheap on eBay at the minute.

Small world, it just popped up in a search and I like the way she wrote.
Seemed to touch on most of the issues without being preachy. How's the mood tonight? |

Also I don't believe that the shooting of that young man had much to do with it. It's difficult to pin down a particular reason for why this kicked off. But I do know that I'd pay good money to see the cocky tw*t who was goading the police take a rubber bullet to the chest.
