10th British Unicycle Convention - this coming weekend

Now that you've scoffed all your Easter eggs, you'll be looking
for some exercise to burn off those calories. You could do a
lot worse than come along to the British Unicycle Convention
this weekend.

The convention is a weekend event run by unicyclists for unicyclists,
allowing unicycle enthusiasts from all over the country - and even
abroad - to meet, have fun and share ideas and skills. The convention
also provides the opportunity to compete against others in races, silly
games, unicycle hockey and other events. In addition, there will be a
number of skills workshops appealing to everyone from absolute
beginners to seasoned experts.

The convention is open to people of all ages and abilities, including those
whose first attempt to ride will be at the convention. So don't be shy. Come
along and have a great time.

All the details are available at the following site including (finally) a
program of events: http://www.unicycle.org.uk/buc10/.

Please also note that the convention is hosting the first British unicycle
free
style competition. If you want to enter, see Sarah Miller at the convention.
http://www.unicycle.org.uk/buc10/freestyle.html.

Lastly, the trials fans among you should know that some bloke called Kris
from Canada is coming to the convention. Means nothing to me, but I was
told you'd want to know. ;-)

The convention is at:

Wolverley High School
Blakeshall Lane
Wolverley
Kidderminster
Worcestershire
DY11 5XQ

The site opens at 10:00am Friday 25th April, and closes on Sunday
afternoon. If you can't do the whole weekend, I'd recommend Saturday.

Hope to see you there.

Re: 10th British Unicycle Convention - this coming weekend

I've got some bad news.

I had intended to bring my Street Machine [1] - I know Alan was quite
keen to have a go, and I imagine a few other unicyclists might have
fancied a ride as well. The only way I can carry the bike is on the
roof of the car. Unfortunately Catherine crashed her car just before
BJC (Catherine's fine btw, no-one was seriously injured), and it doesn't
look like she'll have it back in time for BUC .

We've got a courtesy car, but it doesn't have roof bars :-(

What would we do without your meticulous eye (though I'd swear it wasn't there earlier honest).
Thanks Klaas

Hmm... tricky... I'd get the train to Kidderminster and
then a taxi. Unless you can arrange a lift from the station.

I'm sure I offered someone a lift from Birmingham International
- they'd better get in touch as I'll be in Kiddy early...

The free style comp will happen on Saturday at 2pm in the school theatre

Here is a brief intro to Free style Unicycle competition BUC style. A sign
up sheet will be at BUC registration untill mid-day Saturday. This is the
first time we have had a free style comp at BUC , so why not give it a
try?

____________________________________________________________

In freestyle riders perform a routine using any
kind of unicycle, more than one unicycle can be used in the same routine.
Music, costume and props ( like juggling clubs or skipping ropes) can be
used and the whole routine is marked as a "performance". Judges are
looking not just at unicycle skill but also at the routine as a whole, for
entertainment and style.
So if you have a routine you can do on your own or
with a partner that takes less than 3 minutes (that doesn't hurt any body
or damage the floor!) why not enter the

First British Unicycle Free Style Competition

Held at BUC 10 in the Theatre Saturday 2pm

If you have music you want to use please bring it along on a CD, Mini
disc or at the start of a tape. If you want to use big props please bring
a helper to help you set up.

You could use a routine you have done in a show, part of a busking act, or
you could work something out and practise in the hall tonight. What ever
you do, and however wobbly you feel, have a go. There will be a small
prize for each entrant.

Please sign up before Mid-day Saturday if you want to enter.

Having seen the pic, I think you should try harder to bring it. :-)
Sorry to hear about the car.

I now have better news - the car will be ready to pick up at 16:00 on
Friday. Since there doesn't seem to be much happening on the Friday
(and the weather forecast's 'orrible anyway), I'll wait for the car. It
means I'll be arriving a few hours later than I'd originally planned,
but I shall have the Street Machine.

As it's my main transport and would be rather expensive to replace, I'll
be keeping it locked up. But anyone who wants a go is welcome, just
ask. I'm not willing to adjust the boom length, so anyone significantly
shorter than me won't be able to ride it.
