Re: Into The Thunder Dragon movie finally released!
Yes that's it - a "staircase" cut out of a log. We saw quite a few of those
in Bhutan. ---Nathan > If it's the same shot that I couldn't figure out, it's this one... I > think you've answered my question, anyway! > > Phil, just me > > |Download attachment: http://www.unicyclist.com/attachment/92812 | |

Received my copy a few days ago from Uni.com. This DVD is great! If you haven't ordered a copy do it now. If you don't have a DVD player yet, get one now.
The Muni and trials scenes are fantastic in their own right. But in addition this film conveys what it's like to go out and find great riding in an unusual and interesting place. The culture, music and commentary make this much more than just a Muni film. There are some clips in this film where Kris and Nathan are going down some fast technical sections with the camera following from behind. How did the camera trail these guys so closely and so smoothly? Great footage - it really conveys the excitement and feeling of riding a technical trail. Joe |

Hi Joe, Glad you liked the film. The "follow cam" shots were filmed by Sean running behind us holding the camera (there's one clip of him doing this in the "making of" section). I have no idea how he manages to keep it so steady over rough terrain, and on some scary stuff too- the intro at the beginning of ITTD includes a follow cam on the Ridiculator, North Shore, which is a 4-6" wide log that's up to 18 feet in the air, where Sean had to run along behind without looking at his feet or anything else besides the camera. -Kris. |

Yup. Got mine from Bedford. It's a great movie. It's really cool to see the different types of terrain ridden and with more than one rider. I find it interesting to watch the lines that Kris and Nathan chose to ride.

I haven't seen it yet (I will soon), so I don't know it was done there. But a lot of modern video cameras have built in digital stabilizer to reduce the shaky handheld motion, with varying degrees of success. You could also get something like the steadicam Junior, which is a handheld counterbalance aparatus that you can use with most handheld cameras, both video and small film cameras, I believe. It's even small enough that you could pack it out on mountain trails.
Check it out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1945658392 Like I said, I don't know if this is what they did in Bhutan, but that's something you could use for shooting like that.

Re: Into The Thunder Dragon movie finally released!
The SteadyCam JR was used by the crew filming Muni weekend, but Sean didn't
use one in Bhutan. The very short segment of him shooting us in the DVD special features doesn't do him justice. He is an absolute master. It takes years of athletic experience in the mountains plus the skill to actually point right at the desired action to do what he does. If you went up to Vancouver after Unicon XI, then imagine him sprinting along atop the Ridiculator for take after take, without watching his feet. No, he never bailed. ---Nathan "nbrazzi" <nbrazzi.g50oa@timelimit.unicyclist.com> wrote in message news:nbrazzi.g50oa@timelimit.unicyclist.com... > > I haven't seen it yet (I will soon), so I don't know it was done there. > But a lot of modern video cameras have built in digital stabilizer to > reduce the shaky handheld motion, with varying degrees of success. Since it's selling in the UK it must be available in PAL, although the site
doesn't specifically say so. Ask Roger: http://www.unicycle.uk.com/shop/shop...?catalogid=262 ---Nathan "hooney_uni" <hooney_uni.g67qb@timelimit.unicyclist.com> wrote in message news:hooney_uni.g67qb@timelimit.unicyclist.com... > > Hi, > > Is the DVD avalible in PAL format for people like me who live in > Australia and dont have NTSC DVD players. In article <danger_uni.ffc4y@timelimit.unicyclist.com>,
danger_uni <danger_uni.ffc4y@timelimit.unicyclist.com> wrote: ) )Hi All, ) )Our new mountain unicycling film, Into The Thunder Dragon, has now been )released on DVD and VHS. I got my DVD today--it's incredible stuff. The unicycling goes quickly from "hmm, I could probably do that" into "oh, MAN!" territory. But I think the best scene is the one where a mob of 20 or 30 children--who might have been seeing their first white men, let alone their first unicyclists--chase Kris and Nathan down the street. A great travelouge, with some amazing unicycling. -Tom |

I have a question for Kris and Nathan; how the heck do you guys come up with the money and time to do all this stuff? Who pays production costs? Travel expenses? In short, how can I quit my jobs and Uni around the world??

Re: Into The Thunder Dragon movie finally released!
The hard part is getting the time off from work/family/life. You just have
to decide to do it, then do it. As to who pays, it doesn't matter to me who pays. Always have someone else pay for your foreign adventure trips! That's the way. The only slight disadvantage of this is that the sponsor then owns the rights to the footage, but it's unlikely you're giving up a huge income stream with unicycling films so this is ok. The way to quit your job and uni around the world is to concretely come up with a plan, get sponsor(s), or if there is no alternative, save up enough money, then walk up to your boss and tell him what you're doing and say good-bye. That is the hardest step. Actually starting. I once quit my job and cycled around Japan and New Zealand for 12 months. It was awesome from the time I gave notice at work until the last few days when the thought of working started to interfere with life again. I just returned from a holiday trip to find my copy of the video waiting for me. AMAZING! A special thanks to all who made this wonderful film. Sean is indeed a master. The riding is awesome and inspiring and Bhutan is a wonderful jewel of humanity. If you haven't seen this film - DO IT!
