Thumbs up Hey, I just found this forum....cool!

Wow it is great to find this forum. Usually I just read rec.sport.unicycling and that is good fun but lately I was wanting a little more discussion to read while I get over the flu. Yuck, I got sick last week and though I did ride my uni the past three days I just don't have my usual spunk. So hopping and practicing my idling have come to a bit of a stop for now.

That's too bad because I am actually totally addicted to unicycling since I learned to ride in July. Hardly a day goes by that I don't ride. I ride my 24 inch SemXL on the 8 km round trip to work during the week and on the weekends I do some beginner level trials stuff near where I live here in Vancouver Canada.

A few weeks ago we did some easy MUni stuff and I am so hopeing that my skills will improve to the level where I can justify getting the new 24 inch KH MUni. Right now the Sem is fine for my level of riding but who knows in a couple of months!!

I can't quite hop onto sidewalks from the road yet and I can't quite idle more than one half revolution forward and then back but both these skills are getting there and as soon as I have my energy levels back I think it will only be a couple more weeks till I am hopping onto curbs and starting to do a few unassisted idles. Yay, that will be great. I am also hopeing to be able to ride down a couple of stairs some time soon..... ah, so many basics to learn.

Well, enough rambling for now..... when ya can't ride you might as well talk! LOL

Cheers,
Erin

Hey,

Being sick sucks. Hope this is a short trip to the land of ill.

I used a 2x4 to start hoppin over- a short section, so if I hopped low and bad, it would deflect... made it kinda 'safe'. Klas Bil has a cool progressive bar stack, were he can add a half inch or so at a time. If you aren't doing rolling hops, you'll have to lean/fall tword your target and hop- crunching your stomach muscles. Most folks hop up sideways on their favorit (back) foot side. You probably know all this- I just like hearing the sound of my own keyboard.

Great thing about unicycling is there are always skills to develope, always rewards.

Later,

-Christopher

I find this odd. I hop to the side with my front foot. How can you do a pedal grab easily on your back pedal?

I believe this tendancey developse because of posture (it's relatively uncomfortable to twist back tword the chocolate foot, since your body is naturaly angled away from that side) and the ability to bring the front of the tyre closer to the target (there's no crank in the way, and the wheel can be brought right up to the curb). Naturaly, this may not be, for pedal grabs. Very few people do pedal grabs on curbs.

ok

I see, thanks for the heads up.
Off-topic question: What is it called when you go into a pedal grab, and then hop back off the object? As in you do the first step, but you never bring the wheel all the way up the surface your pedal/crank is on.
Also: Is a pedal grab just the pedal, the pedal and the crank, or it doesnt matter?
