Baldwin Street and other Uni escapades
A bit late, but after seeing the 'hillclimbing...again' thread I decided to scan some of the pics from my University Graduation last year. I did the graduation procession on my Uni- but kept bumping into the PhD people and got lots of weird looks. That was the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. Dunedin is also the home of Baldwin Street, the worlds steepest street.
Anyway here they are: Baldwin St and Uni Grad Peters link Ken Looi

Ken,
Wow, that's pretty cool looking, you cycling on that street. The graduation pics are pretty funny ... is wrestling in porridge a tradition there then? Lewis

You're a mountain goat. What a hill.

That was capping week- lot's of weird stuff going on. Chilli eating competitions, Gumboot drinking sessions, porridge wrestling etc etc >did you get all the way up in one mount, or did you need to stop a couple of times? I didn't keep tab on how many attempts I did. But when I fell off I was pretty because I went back down to start again. Finally nailed it after I don't know how many times but it was a lot.Ken |

Well I didn't go to a university that had a graduation procession (apparently Oxford has one, but it's not common in the UK). I also didn't graduate on my unicycle - even if I'd wanted to, I doubt I could have hopped up the steps to collect my degree certificate. But before and after the ceremony I took the opportunity to ride around campus in my robes. And I arranged for a FOC professional photo sitting by the simple expedient of phoning the local paper (who had already featured me several times doing various things on the unicycle). Great pictures BTW Ken. -- Danny Colyer (remove safety to reply) ( http://www.juggler.net/danny ) Recumbent cycle page: http://www.speedy5.freeserve.co.uk/recumbents/ "He who dares not offend cannot be honest." - Thomas Paine |
