Anyone ride Critical Mass on a uni?

What skills do you need to not die? Freemount, ride, dismount, turn, idle?

I'm happy to report that my Critical Mass is decreasing as my uni skills improve.

When I started learning to ride, I thought that the level 1 skills
would be sufficient to get around the places I wanted to ride, so I
had modest aspirations. Then I thought "OK, turning would be
indispensible". Then "idling would be handy while waiting for
traffic".

Really, this was shortsighted. While I now assume/accept that I may
never become very good at unicycling, I endeavour a future of slow but
endless skills acquisition.

I think that is, as you say, jugglers shorthand. Otherwise known as siteswap
notation. I have been juggling for 10 years and I can't understand any of
it!

Yep, it's called siteswap. That particular siteswap is the longest 4-ball
asynchronous non-multiplexed prime pattern with no throws higher than 7,
hitting 31 out of 35 possible states.

No, although I would like to this year. (Last year I did it once on a bike,
but that was before I rode a unicycle) It wouldn't be too hard as the group
(in Toronto) generally goes at a pace somewhere between a walk and a jog.

ride slowly. At least the Cm I took part in went VERY slow, the muni was
almost too fast! otherwise as you say, get on, get off,stop, rock and turn
is all you need. bear in mind you will be visable to law enforcement
types, and don't do any thing too illegal.

Doing the "Sydney Harbour Bridge" CM ride was the first milestone in my uni-life - did it on a 20inch savage-seated beasty with a maxxis "ringworn" tire pumped to 125psi [yikes that's only slightly more than half my weight!!!]

Yeah, did a couple of Critical Mass rides in Wellington (New Zealand) late last year. Good fun but I won't be doing any more- too many political groups pushing non-cycling related issues (Anti GE, anti globalisation etc etc etc.) at each CM ride. I feel like I'm riding for their cause!!!!

Critical Mass is a monthly pseudo-political gathering of bicyclists which
started in San Francisco and has now spread to many other cities with
similar politics. Basically, a bunch of bikes (up to 3000 in SF) get
together and do an urban ride during the Friday evening commute. The
news hounds dutifully report that there was a traffic jam "caused" by
Critical Mass--blaming the 3000 bikes for the 300,000 cars.

There's one every now and then in York (the original, not your swanky
new-fangled one, tch!) where the idea is basically to promote peoples'
awareness of cycling... generally a way of saying to the council "look,
there's loads of us, give us some more cycle paths!" and to pedestrians and
motorists "look, cycling is great!".
