power grips?

Has anyone tried power grips on a unicycle?

The thought of having my feet attached to the pedals in any way at all
scares me, however quickly these claim to let you escape. I am sure there
are a few uni-loonies that would like a set though.

I used to use power grips on my mountain bike before spd's came into
existence. They can be very good but there is no way that they could be
used effectively on a unicycle (sure someone will prove me wrong!). To use
them effectively you need to have quite a lot of twist on your foot, with
only one wheel I can see this being a problem.

Please tell me you are kidding. In the middle of a UPD are you really going to be able to stop and think of what angle your foot needs to be in to escape? Think of how often you get off your uni on a muni ride, and then tell me that you are still considering getting these.

I was thinking about these straps the other day, and came to the conclusion
that they wouldn't work, because in tricky situations you most often want
to get your foot off in the forward direction, which the straps will
keep you from doing.

But I came up with a brilliant solution--magnets. I think a magnetic
pedal might wind up being excellent for unicycling. Install a powerful
magnet with a broad face, and your "cleat" could just be a metal plate.
You could disengage from the pedal in any direction, but it would hold
well enough that you wouldn't spend so much energy keeping your foot
on the pedal.

Someone with machining skills want to try this out?

now lets think about this. These better pedals will be mainly used on muni rides. What is on a muni trail? Dirt and mud. Now how do you plan on keeping those perdy pedals clean and sticky with mud all over the velcro?
