Wearing a Helmet at 2000 feet?
I was just looking at some incredible Kris Holm photos, and I was looking at a pic of him on the edge of a REALLY high cliff. He was wearing a helmet. Dont take this the wrong way, I AM in favor of wearing a helmet, but I doubt it would help him if he fell. In truth, if i was in his pposition, I'd rather worry about me wheel, than my helmet strap being too tight. Any other opinions?

He had to get to the edge of the cliff somehow. He could also fall away from the edge. If, when he fell, he determined that he was going over the edge of the cliff, he could then decide to chuck the helmet and drop the 2000 feet in comfort with the wind in his hair.

Not that I see myself in a situation such as this, I would keep the helmet
for a few reasons: I could fall to the non-deadly side, or who knows, maybe fall on the deadly side, and find a root to grab onto at the last minute. Also, if you always ride with a helmet, riding without one would feel kinda funny, and maybe even make you ride differently. Hey! I ride with arm pads, gloves, knee and shin pads and no helmet

I think it is worth wearing a helmet anyway.
I usually wear a helmet but this weekend I was going on a ride and it was -22 c (about –10 F if you are from the USA), so I opted to wear a warm hat rather then my helmet. Wouldn't you know it the one & only time I fell & hit my head I wasn't wearing my helmet. I was riding across a lake on an ice bridge (a road made of ice that goes across a lake). I didn't think I would need a helmet because I was riding on the flat ice and I do this almost every day. You just never know when your helmet will come in handy. If you are not wearing it (as I was not) by the time you realize you need it, it will be too late. Funny that you mention this. My collegue (who I dragged into
unicycling) has this very picture on his office wall, printed on A4. And we have made fun about exactly this issue!
