Bo blingy, its classic!

I like it (a lot)

Is this a DIY job, or did you have it professionally done (or both )

I took it to a shop and had all the paint removed, and then the guy took it over to his buffing wheel and after just a few seconds showed me that it could be polished to look just like Chrome. So I had him polish the entire frame and it came out looking like actual Chrome, just like the KH moment cranks which are also aluminum but highly polished. Kris told me that the moment cranks are coated in clear powder coat, so that will be the next step for the frame to protect it from scratching and oxidation.

Meanwhile back at the farm I sandblasted my chromed UDC Titan and sprayed it with Hammerite. I should have just traded you frames Terry!! :-)

Todd

Pic was of a stop last year to get some fresh uni-corn. They do exist.

Nice, but mine wasn't actually chromed, rather all the paint was removed and the KH aluminum frame was polished to such a high luster that it now looks like Chrome, but without the risk of rusting, flaking or affecting the fit of seatpost clamp or bearing caps. And I much prefer the look of Highly polished aluminum to Chrome anyway.

So what you're saying is I wouldn't have had even a slight chance of trading you my $70 lustery chromed Titan frame for your unpolished painted over aluminum KH frame? Steel's real Terry!

Your frame looks great!!

That frame is GORGEOUS!!! I love chrome. Or virtual chrome, if you will. I'm interested to see how it holds up to normal wear & tear, and the sun, after it gets powder coated. You may end up with a copycat out there...

Many of the Urban guys have done this to their frames but I dont think they have clearcoated it. I am not sure clear coating it would work though as their shoes scuff the frames so much anyway.

Mike Taylor had a particularly nice Gravity which still had the impact stickers on it around the buffed frame.

While deciding whether I'm going to have some permanent clear coat put on the frame, I wanted to at least protect the sides of the frame that are most prone to scratching and wear from intermittent leg rubbing. I've used clear packing tape in the past with some success but it's so thin that over time it does tear or scratch and if you leave it on a while it's very hard to get off without leaving a residue.

So looking around my shop I found some clear adhesive vinyl which is much thicker than packing tape, but also will not leave a residue whenever you want to remove it. And from the pictures below, you'd never know it was even on there. So it seems to be a good interim solution.
