Assume the raccoon can't use a key, and hide one outside somewhere.

I recently installed a sliding-door-insert doggie door into our back bedroom. The idea is for our dogs to be able to go outside to go to the bathroom at night. So far this part is still sketchy, but they've all three learned to use the door. For this to work, I also had to install a deadbolt lock on that bedroom door, in case someone (or thing) that doesn't belong comes in through the dog door. It's 9" x 15", the smallest size that will pass Betty Lou.

Animal lovers are just people who have never had to deal with wildlife that become pests and a health hazard.
The only difference between an animal lover and a hunter is one mugging by a racoon.
