Well, I think they basically got mostly SAG actors who could also "ride" a unicycle. I was the only one there who's agent specializes in sports talent.

They (Big clients like Ford, etc.) go through agents for talent, and don't typically post something online. Sometimes smaller or new agents with a limited talent roster might post something, saying what they are looking for--as they have here before--but for the vast majority of TV commercials, shows and other, they get submissions directly from well-established agencies, especially on the big budget stuff.

You can also find lots of actor wanted listings, both theatrical and otherwise, in trades like Variety and Backstage. The job listings are aimed mostly at working actors, but there are lots of non-union, student-type films too, which is where most start. Some pay, most don't. The acting community is highly competitive, cut throat, and quite often, the way a person looks will be more important than their acting abilities. That's Hollywood for ye!

Hey, me too! I bet I could even twirl an umbrella while riding off a curb. While saying my ABCs. Hearing about the unicycling actors in this thread makes me feel much more skilled than looking at the "OUT" game threads.

That's a wrap! What an awesome last day on the Fox lot. Many of the more veteran commercial actors said that this was by far, the biggest, most extravagant commercial production they had ever been involved in. I can certainly see why!

It was more like a mini movie! We had a fantastic catered lunch and the shoot went great. One guy "tweaked" his ankle a bit going down the curb, but otherwise it was problem free. We all had bets as to how many takes they'd shoot before we wrapped; most said between 15-20! I guessed 7. We did 7!

My agent said she thinks it should hit air in about 30 days. I've missed my normal riding routine over the last few days, so I can't wait to get back out on the trail tomorrow!

Did you end up wearing your own clothes, or did they pick something off the wardrobe racks for you?

We used wardrobe stuff. Kindof dress-casual, and we all had similar variations, but all different. The parachute jumpers they shot earlier in the day was awesome!

Thanks, MuniOrBust, I got a good 20 second laugh out of that! Is Ford advertising an option for a minigun with their new car?

wow! I can ride off a curb and i suck. I find it surprising that they weren't able to find better rides for the shoot.

Me too, but then again, most theatrical (non-sports) agents and Tv producers and such, have no clue about unicyclists. They simply put out a call for actors who could also "ride" a uni. I mean seriously, there was nothing even remotely challenging about it, and I was going nuts wanting to do something--ANYTHING more fun. There were a few stair sets and other obstacles that I could at least play on between takes! People couldn't believe it, and were easily impressed, haha!

But we all had to do the same thing, so I just had to go with the flow. it'll still be a great commercial though, and the money was really good! We get paid SAG scale as "principal" talent, plus "stunt" pay as well! Then there's a good chance for ongoing residuals.

I think what you mean is that it was easy for you to impress them, Terry!

I'm sure we all wish we could get paid to ride off a curb! Don't worry, Terry. I'm sure they'll contact you when they want to shoot an opening scene for a movie with a unicycling brigade doing more tricks, a la Police Academy 4:

David Spade and Tony Hawk skateboarding together in the '80s. I love '80s movies--at least in memory.

Haha, the 80's. Funny, I saw "Hot tub time machine", which puts the characters back in the '80's.

Flash! Here's an early "sneek peek" of the Ford Fiesta Commercial! ()
