So, today 2 people asked me if I was Unigeezer! After struggling to the top of "heart attack hiill" I've decided to call myself "Uniwheezer"

So, what has happened? Did the shoot take place yet?

What product is being shamelessly pitched? Preparation H? Depends adult diapers? Viagra?

By the way, Terry, that was a nice photo of you in your new duds. You seem to clean up very nicely. Who knew?

Haha, the last one would be funny. We're doing rehearsal tomorrow, and shooting on one or two of the following days.

On the set at Fox Studios today for rehearsal. Lots of fun, except boring as heck when just waiting between shots. Great craft service though, haha! Got there for 8am call, and finished at about 6:45pm.

Ok, this is going to be a BIG budget, 60 second commercial for Ford, and consists of parkour, parachutes and TWELVE unicyclists! Other than myself, all of the other 11 are mostly actors who are, for the most part, "casual" and novice riders, many of whom were having difficulty freemounting with consistency. I helped some of them during breaks and fortunately, they did improve.

Only a few were able to ride off of a small curb, which is part of the opening shot! There are just five in that group, of which I am one. The others are doing the most basic riding. It is all highly choreographed and timing, speed, pacing and symmetry is crucial, and spinning umbrellas while riding is also part of the mix!

There were some big wind gusts during some of the takes, and many were thrown off their unis when the wind caught their umbrellas! Everyone seemed to be getting it together very well towards in last hour or so. Our shoot day is Thursday.

Ditto! I should also mention that I was roll-hopping off the curb--the only thing even remotely requiring a little extra skill, but then found out that we have to ride totally hands free, since it ties in with some of the "wording" of the commercial.

Riding off the curb hands free or any way at all was very hard for some of them to do smoothly, without and excessive "wobbling" or over-corrections. Almost all of them told me that it was their very first time doing anything that "crazy" on a unicycle. Several did fall during initial attempts, but nothing too serious. One rider did suffer a nasty bite to his Achilles tendon!

It should be REALLY interesting on shoot day, because the entire area will be totally wet down, with a fire hydrant shooting water straight up...and down on us as we ride off that curb! Several of the riders have those old schwinns, complete with cottered cranks and those terrible and SLIPPERY rubber pedals! I suggested that they go tomorrow to buy pinned pedals, and make sure to take an old pedal along, so they make sure to get the right size thread, since most of the really old schwinns had 1/2" pedals threads, not 9/16".

Maybe they should have gotten some more experienced unicyclists for the other 11, instead of actors would have ridden unicycles before.
It sounds like the required riding skills are far more important than acting skills for the scene you described.

That's funny I looked at the pictures before I read your post and when I saw the green car off to the right in the first one I thought "Hey, that's a new Fiesta. I wonder if it's going to be in the commercial."

I'm looking forward to seeing what they put together.

Very cool Terry. Gee, I can ride off a curb. I'm starting to feel like I have mad unicycling skill(s).

I think the novice unicycle riders are all part of a devious plan to show that cycling is not practical transportation and that you'd better buy a Ford.

Unless of course the Schwinn riders represent the "other cars" and you go flying by on a Ford 36er.

The new Fiesta is a cool little car. I see loads of them around here (probably helps that I live around the corner from a Ford dealer). I hope the campaign does well!

Back on topic, how hard would it have been for them to find 11 experienced unicyclists to ride off a curb? I would have done it for free! Well, if they paid for my flights to the USA, that is.

Well, I think they basically got mostly SAG actors who could also "ride" a unicycle. I was the only one there who's agent specializes in sports talent.
might will post something, saying what they are looking for--as a few have done here in the past--but for the vast majority of TV commercials, shows and other, they get submissions directly from agencies, especially on the big budget stuff.

You can also find lots of actor wanted listings, both theatrical and otherwise, in trades like Variety and Backstage. The job listings are aimed mostly at working actors, but there are lots of non-union, student-type films too, which is where most start. Some pay, most don't. The acting community is highly competitive, cut throat, and quite often, the way a person looks will be more important than their acting abilities. That's Hollywood for ye!
