I've finally got my server running, so for those of you with a fast
internet connection, I posted a vew videos. They are linked to from
http://lutkus.unicyclist.com

Some of the things you might want to check out:

http://129.21.147.69/video/Kris_Holm_workshop/ Kris Holm's workshop from
the 2001 NUC in Toronto

http://129.21.147.69/video/NUC_2001/ some misc. clips I took at NUC (I've
got a few more to encode yet) Most of these concentrate on trials. (In
general, I found it more fun to ride than tape at the convention)

http://129.21.147.69/video/misc/ lutkus_juggle_doc -- a short documentary
some film students made on me :-) lutkus_uw_mount -- my second successful
jump mount on an ultimate wheel lutkus_bike_glide -- gliding, while being
pulled by a bike

Just about everything there is encoded in divx. I know very little about
video encoding, so if you've got any tips for me, let me know.

If you'd like to do anything with these videos besides view for your
personal enjoyment, drop me a line, and I'll verify the person on film is
OK with it.

Enjoy

Wow, very nice Jeff. I'm no expert about encoding either, but 720x480 is
huge - you could cut the file size a bit by going a little smaller and
also doing something less than 24 bit color. Although I have to say the
quality is great!

Thanks,
Nathan

Loved the vids, thanks for posting them!

Also, I especially liked the 'They Might Be Giants' T-shirt you are
wearing in the juggling docu. My young lady and I went to see them in
Manchester last week, and even though I had to literally drag myself from
a flu ridden sickbed I had one of the best nights out in a long time.
What a band!

Thanx for the great big files- I'm on top of an internet back bone, and the download times were no problem. Now, if I only had some speakers!

Funny, TMBG is my first choice in tunes, too.

> Loved the vids, thanks for posting them!

Glad to hear people are enjoying them. Funny thing is, my computer isn't
powerful enough to watch them on (Why should a computer engineer have
an up-to-date computer?) My roommate was kind enough to loan me his
computer over thanksgiving break. Eventually, I hope to shoot and post
some more videos. I've still got a few more gigs of free hard drive space.

It's interesting -- every time I wear that shirt to a juggling, or
unicycling meeting or convention, I get lots of comments. When I wear it
to class, work, or wherever else, no one notices.

Jeff, I can't watch those videos either. What do I need? I have an 1.1 ghz
Athlon with 128 meg memory and 20 gig drive. I downloaded one of them and
tried to play it on MS Media player but all I got was some sound. I think
I saw something about Divx ?? what is that? Where do I get it?

You just need to get the codec. It's on doom9.net and www.divx.com

Thanks for the info on the AMD. I did at one time try to install a weird
program that installed DirectX for me, probably covering up my later
version. I compared all my DDRAW files, (4 of them), with the ones on
another identical machine and mine were of an earlier version according to
the dates on the files. So I replaced mine with the later ones and I got
the file to play with the Divx player "Playa". I'll download some more of
them and give them a try now. On everything else I've tried with the
Athlon has been compatible so far.

Now this must be way off-topic but if some knowledgeable soul would be
kind enough...? I have 10 files on my system with "ddraw" in their name
(of which 3 are named ddraw.dll). I too have an AMD Athlon machine and I
have the same "missing ddraw.dll" message after having installed the Playa
and trying to play divx files. Anybody know where I can find an undated
ddraw.dll and which one it should replace?

This is what I have:

Directory of C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM: DDRAW DLL 299,008 04-23-99 10:22p
DDRAW.DLL DDRAW16 DLL 28,000 04-23-99 10:22p DDRAW16.DLL DDRAW VXD 30,389
04-23-99 10:22p DDRAW.VXD DDRAWEX DLL 36,864 04-23-99 10:22p DDRAWEX.DLL

Directory of C:\WINDOWS\INF: MSDDRAW INF 446 04-23-99 10:22p MSDDRAW.INF

Directory of C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32: DDRAW DLL 266,512 12-07-99 1:00p
DDRAW.DLL

Directory of C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP: DDRAWEX DLL 36,864 04-23-99 10:22p
DDRAWEX.DLL DDRAW VXD 30,389 04-23-99 10:22p DDRAW.VXD DDRAW16 DLL 28,000
04-23-99 10:22p DDRAW16.DLL DDRAW DLL 299,008 04-23-99 10:22p DDRAW.DLL

This sort of thing is really too difficult for me...

Thanks, Klaas Bil

I am running Win98SE with the Athlon 1.1ghz and here is what I have now
and it works.

DDRAW.DLL 352528 9/09/99 2:00 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ DDRAW16.DLL 28496 9/09/99
2:00 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ DDRAW.VXD 30469 9/09/99 2:00 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\
DDRAWEX.DLL 24336 9/09/99 2:00 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ DDRAWEX.DLL 24336
9/09/99 2:00 C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP\ DDRAW.VXD 30469 9/09/99 2:00
C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP\ DDRAW16.DLL 28496 9/09/99 2:00 C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP\
DDRAW.DLL 352528 9/09/99 2:00 C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP\

The files in SYSBCKUP are the same files.

What version of Windows are you running? Check out the site for upgrading
to DirectX that John mentioned.
